(Note: There have been some comments about using a can of compressed air. This is a great idea and is basically the same concept of cleaning out the dust in the flash mechanisms. If you have compressed air, I would canon eos 500d lenses probably use that before WD-40. Both work fine though.) OK. Let me provide some more details and specifics. Please read this if you feel your camera has the same problem. I have the Canon EOS D500. For quite some time I have had a problem with my camera. Every time the flash should have popped up, it would make a clicking sound and give me the error: "Err 05 The built-in flash could not be raised. Turn the camera off and on again." To fix this, I would just manually pull the flash up as it was trying to come up. After a recent trip to Thailand, this problem caused me to lose a few timely pictures and I came home being fully prepared to take my camera apart to fix this problem. Luckily, this is an easy fix and requires nothing to be taken apart. If you are having this problem, the first thi

Document any custom settings, then try removing the battery and leaving it out canon eos 500d for 20 minutes. This more or less resets evrything and can often take care of such issues. That is, the camera thinks there is an external flash in the hotshoe. This is usually because the tiny microswitch under one rail of the hotshoe is stuck down. In such a situation you can usually free it with a thin blade such as an exacto knife or similar thin implement.-js"Be seeing you."50D - 17-55 f/2.8 IS - 18-55 IS - 28-105 II USM - 60 f/2.8 macro - 70-200 f/4 L - Sigma flashI do not piddle on the carpet! Category:Camera and Video Share this conversation Expert: Marcia replied4 years ago. Hello Peter, thank you for choosing JustAnswer.com. Error 05 refers to the pop up flash. There are a couple of reasons that you would get this error and yours could be either. 1) The camera thinks it should not be raised ( but is still raising) or is not raising. What most likely is the issue is that the micro switches are stuck on your hot shoe. Here's how it works. When you slide your external flash onto your hot shoe, it presses down on two tiny micro switches. This tells the camera not to use the pop-up flash. Anything that could have pressed down on those microswitches could have caused the problem. So what can you do about it? You obviously can take it to a repair and have them re-adjust the switches. If your camera is still under warranty, send to Canon for repair or, if you are mechanical you can obtain some jewelers screwdrivers and re-adjust at home. The link below is a tutorial on making this repair. Tutorial 2) A second problem that could be happening is that there is a button near the hinge that could be getting stuck and causing the error code. If the button is in the down position the camera thinks the flash is closed when in fact it is open. Best of luck and if I can help in any other way please just ask.
