In reply to André Boldo • Feb 8, 2004 You'll get an error 5 code if the built-in flash is released but is restrained from rising to the http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/EOS-Rebel/Err-05-can-anyone-help/td-p/18305 upright and locked position. If you do this, nothing will get damaged and you will hear click-click-click as the release tries to let the flash pop up. Could this be happening in your case?Stan Reply Reply with quote Complain André Boldo OP • Regular Member • Posts: 488 you´re right! In reply to André Boldo • Feb 9, 2004 Was shooting outdoors.....the built flash popped up....got the error message. Had to power off, then back on to continue shooting. Now when I try to use the flash, it pops up and immediately I get the Error 05 message. Have to cycle the power off then on. if I leave the flash in the up position when I cycle the power, and try to take a shot, it doesn't fire. I've checked to see if anything is obstructing it.....don't see anything. It appears to be fully open.Anyone have any ideas....short of taking it in for repair?????André Boldo wrote: Yeah, i simply pressed the buttom but held te poup-up flash

A stranger knocked my camera over, it falling to the ground on a rather soft carpet. Nothing seemed to have broken, untill I made some further inspections...Well, my EF 50mm lens that was mounted on it had some damage - it works fine now, but for a while I was scared it had actually broken; It almost came in to two pieces. After simply giving it a twist it appears to work fine now, but some issues appear when using Auto Focus...Oh well. But Error 05! Flash! It won't pup up automatically! I can manually open it, but I am not supposed to do that. Any tips?5D MK II | 350D | 24-105mm L | 50mm 1.4 | Sigma 10-20mm LOG IN TO REPLY sponsored links (this ad will go away when you log in as registered member) Mark_CohranMark_CohranCream of the Crop15,556 postsJoined Jul 2002Portland, OregonMore infoSep 06, 2006 09:33|#2By manually open it, do you mean lift it up with your fingers, or use the button to make it pop up itself? If the button doesn't work to make the flash pop up, and you have to lift it up with your fingers, there could be a couple of different problems. One, the step motor that cause the flash to lift could be broken, or two, there's a tiny limit switch just beneath the rails on the hotshoe that detects when you have an external flash
