of nowhere, my 40D now does not recognize the memory cards I put in. Normally, I use 1gb SD Cards with a CF adapter, and they have worked fine for over a year. I also have a 128mb CF card lying around. This past weekend I was shooting some photos during a backyard bbq, and after my wife transferred the photos to her laptop, the camera suddenly will not read canon eos 40d error 99 the card. I put the card in, close the door and wait for the camera to recognize the card. The red light stays on for longer than usual, then when I go to snap a photo it says "CF Card not formatted". I've never gotten this error before with the SD + adapater, or with the normal CF card, and I've never been able to format the SD + adapter anyways. It's always worked fine until now. Trying a few more times, I noticed that the card door was a little bit harder to shut than usual, as if the card was not pushed in all the way. Upon closer inspection of the connector pins inside the slot, I see that two pins seem to be bent - they are in the below "x" locations if you are looking into the CF card slot with the lens of the camera pointing up: x . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . x I'm wondering if my wife might have bent them out of shape when putting the card back into the slot too forcefully, or if it's something else? Thanks in advance for any help. LOG IN TO REPLY sponsor

Gepubliceerd op 4 mrt. 2013One of the pins inside the cf card slot got pushed in where it was not supposed to be upon inserting a cf card. As a result, the camera came up with a cf card error and could not read or write to the card. Was going to cost me $350 to fix at the local repair shop. Decided to grind down a long nose pliers so it was small enough to fit into the cf card slot and grip onto the pin - then CAREFULLY pull it back into position. Camera now works as normal. Not sure though how much damage occured to the internals on the otherside of the damaged pin. I don't take any responsibility for any damage which might occur as a result of what you may do.....Good luck! Submitted: 4 years ago. Category:Camera and Video Share this conversation Expert: Rick replied4 years ago. Hi. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I'll try to help you with your question today. The most common cause for this is damaged connection pins in the cameras card reader. These become bent or broken and will produce the error you are describing.Using a flashlight, look carefully at the pin array inside the CF card reader on the camera and examine for damage. If bent or broken pins are visible, they can be replaced fairly inexpensively. However, this really isn't a user serviceable problem and should be done by a qualified technician. Below is a link to a repair shop that should be able to help you if you need it.If this has been of any help, please press 'ACCEPT' so that I may be compensated for my efforts.Positive feedback is always appreciated.Thank You,Rick(Edited by Moderator) Ask Your Own Camera and Video Question Customer: replied4 years ago.
