You may need to remove the internal battery as well, and leave both batteries out for several minutes before refitting and turning on.err99 is a catchall code though and can indicate one of a number of problems. So, if that doesn't work, try cleaning the lens contacts, removing and reseating the grip (if you use one) and cleani

I recently purchased the EOS 10D and was having a great time with it until this morning. I attached the Sigma 105mm 2.8EX macro lens to

it, and all was ok for a few shots. Then for one shot, the shutter sounded funny, and an error message was displayed 'err 99'. The camera would not work until I had removed and replaced the battery. So I tried again, and the same thing http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=973519 after a few shots. And again. And again... I changed the lens to the Canon 28-135mm and all was fine. I have used other Canon lenses with the 10D and all appears to be fine. So, has anyone heard about this and know what the problem is? Is it a camera error, or a lens compatibility issue? I live in England and bought the Canon from the US, so I probably have no warrnty here either. I'll make sure my next posting is on a more positive note!! Some sigma lenses need to be changed to work with canon bodies. Canon does not (or people won't pay for it) license their lens mount like nikon does. This means that they have to reverse engineer the lens mount. This results in new camera bodies coming out that break some lenses. Another possability is that the lens was not on all the way or wasn't seated well. Search for "99" on this web site, I recall this topic coming up before. And as I recall, the answer was one I didn't expect. Err 99 stands for a lens communication error. I have the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX macro as well, and it works wonderfully. I would have to assume that since your body works fine with other lenses, that the microchip in your Sigma lens needs to be replaced. If it is still under warranty, call Sigma and they should rechip the lens for you with you only paying for shipping. It only happens if the lens needs to stop down, it shoost just fine on wide-open f/5.6. Moreo

Geüpload op 5 dec. 2010This video is made for all of you out there who have or may experience the dreaded error 99 message on your Canon SLR Digital Camera. I would say that the majority of the time, you will see it when you are using non-Canon lenses, but it does appear for Flash Card and Camera Body issues. This is the troubleshooting method I recommend to all users to help narrow the issue down. Although I think I've babied these items their whole lives (never more than a gentle, well-padded bump, never exposed to dusty environment, etc.), they've become increasingly unusable lately, and it appears they might need repairs from someone more qualified than me. Here's the breakdown...EOS 10D, bought new in 2003 or 2204, so it's obviously well out of warrantee now. I'd say it has generally had fairly light use - no way I've taken more than 10,000 shots with it. Firmware is 2.0.1, which AFAIK is the latest.I have different two batteries (no grip, just 2 batteries), and 2 1 gig CF cards. The problems occur with either battery or card, so I don't think they're part of the problem.I have two lenses, neither of which are going to win any awards, but which have (previously) been adequate for my modest needs:1. Canon 28-135mm IS zoom. This has been my everyday lens.2. Canon 75-300mm IS zoom. I haven't been using this lens much - because of the symptoms described below. Here's what's happening...the results are actually different depending on which lens is attached...With the 28-135 lens attached...I had been occasionally been getting the (apparently common) "Err 99" error. Once in a blue moon. When it happened, I would always turn the camera off, maybe switch batteries, turn it back on, and keep shooting. But it has been starting to happen more and more often. Lately, it sometimes happens after the first shot, so I can no longer really ignore it and just futz with the power. This comes and goes, it's not predictable. With the 75-300 lens attached...Initially, the lens will focus correctly, and I can shoot a handful of shots (exactly how many varies, roughly 6-10). Then the camera locks up, and the LCD flashes "Err 01" - not Err 99. It continues flashing that message
