Solved Canon MP730 "wrong cartridge" error message Posted on 2007-07-17 Printers and Scanners 1 Verified Solution 6 Comments 7,928 Views Last Modified: 2009-12-16 Started having trouble with our 3 year old Canon Multipass MP730 printer yesterday. It began displaying "wrong cartridge" message and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC-fMfp5RJ0 showing that it has pages in memory but It won't print out any reports or those pages that are in memory. I can't manually shut the printer down because of the messages in memory, I had to unplug it to shut it down hoping that it would clear the problem. No luck. It appears that we are able to send faxes out fine, at least the few that I have been able to verify. Unable https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/22701762/Canon-MP730-wrong-cartridge-error-message.html to find anything on the Canon site and the little I did find on the subject on another help type forum gave me the impression that I'm simply going to have to replace it. Since this machine is used mostly for outgoing faxes and the printed reciepts in memory are just for proof, any ideas as to whether this message will keep the machine from doing the basic outgoing faxes mission? 0 Question by:JeTopete Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 1 Best Solution byComputer101 PAQed with points refunded (250) Computer101 EE Admin Go to Solution 5 Comments Message Expert Comment by:ryu13042007-07-18 I have the same problem how did you solve it? 0 Message Author Comment by:JeTopete2007-07-18 I finally was able to locate some help information on the Canon website that informed me that the "wrong cartridge' error message is referring to a problem with the print head. There are instructions on resetting the print head but that didn't work for me. So it appears that I can either order the replacement print head at the following number (732) 521-7230 (Canon Parts Department) or I can go out and buy a new one. If your unit is under warranty Canon will repair it within the terms, otherwise you're in the same boat as me. Canon does offer a replacement type program tha

It worked perfectly fine right until yesterday - when all of a sudden, a wild Error appeared. First things first; I do not have to actually fix it. If some component is permanently broken, fine!, as long as I know why it's broken, and which component, I'm satisfied. Symptoms: 1. I can (and do) access 'Print' canon pixma mp780 and I print a document, just like any printer. Document is being sent to s-pool. 2. Says on computer that 'There has been an error!' 3. [Looks over at printer] eq. to POST code has appeared: "WRONG CARTRIDGE" I always have a load of different cartridges laying around. So I swap them all for the recommended genuine OEM Canon cartridges, just like new. "WRONG CARTRIDGE" I'm puzzled. So what should/can I do? I am very interested in hearing some TechSpot-members' thoughts. Also, I'm translating the error message, there is a chance that those who coded the printer in my language did so very badly (not uncommon...) - e.g. there is a possibility that the error message is actually supposed to be "Wrong Cassette." My goal: Preferably, get the printer back up and running. Secondarily, if unfixable, sit back and enjoy the error-reading on TechSpot . The printer has never been cleaned - so maybe I have to change the ink depository if there is one/some. (pardon for poor translation from my native tounge ). Brother Printer Cannot Detect Ink Best Home Printer Canon Wrong Cartridge Error Fix Written by Dean Michael on Jun 24, 2015 Is your Canon printer giving you the dreaded "Wrong Cartridge" error message when you try to print? This is not an Ink Cartridge issue but is caused by the actual print head itself. It is a known problem with many of the older Canon printers such as the MP780 and the MP730 models. One of the main causes is that the electrical terminals which connect the printer to the print head are dirty or have become oxidised over a long period of use. The way to fix this is to remove all of the ink cartridges and then unclip and remove the actual print head.Once the print head is removed you will discover a small green and gold circuit board which is the part needing cleaning. Give this a clean with some non corrosive cleanser or even cleaning alcohol. Once cleaned re install the print head, put the cartridges back in and give the printer another go. Most of the time this will fix the problem, if however the error message remains then its almost certain that the print head has died. If this is the case simply move on to a newer model Canon printer as printers of this age will usually develop other problems and replacing the print head is not economically viable. For a better view of cleaning the print head contacts take a look at the following video.
