Reply LuisJ February 24, 2014 at 14:03 Mine was a grease smear on the clear plastic strip (encoder) behind the print head, the smear caused not canon pixma ip4000 driver windows 7 64 bit to find home. I did cause the smear with my knuckles while cleaning the head cleaning squeegees by the ink dumps / head cleaning station. Reply CrispinR January 14, 2015 at 12:27 After several different suggested fixes were tried including that specified above to reset the "ink absorber" and those suggested by Canon for this error message on their site, I am very happy to say that the issue turned out to be the same as set out by LuisJ who had a smear on the plastic strip. Once the strip had been cleaned the printer returned to normal. Thanks Luis for posting your findings here as it really helped me. Thanks also to Satu and to Carl Norton who gave the solution for the ink absorber. Reply Joe Kelly July 28, 2015 at 10:27 Cleaning the plastic strip cleared my problem. Thanks Reply JimC October 3, 2015 at 22:53 Thanks! It was grease on the clear plastic strip that runs behind the print heads. Now it works fine.Leave a ReplyClick here to cancel reply.Name Email (optional) Comment Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of ne

Hi, 5100 is a Carriage Home Position Error Please try the following after switching off the printer: First make sure nothing is keeping the print head from moving all the way across the printer. If the smallest thing blocks the head from going all the way across it will generate this error. You want to look hard for ANY obstructions anywhere. Throughly check the gears and rollers for obstructions too. Second the code strip (or timing strip) is the 1/4 inch plastic strip that runs across the printer and through the head carriage. It is got supports on both sides. If becomes dislodged it will generate this error. (it is got a tesnsion spring on one end) Third manually move the print head to the center. Then turned the printer back on. If this does not help then you may have a problem with carriage assembly or logic board Thanks Ask Your Own Computer Question Share this conversation JustAnswer in the News: Ask-a-doc Web sites: If you've got a quick question, you can try to get an answer from sites that s
