HELP Jan 28, 2010 #1 Archean TechSpot Paladin Posts: 5,680 +85 As you say it flashes orange light five times consecutively, that means there is a print head error. Reset the print head, then reset the printer. To reset the print head, make sure the printer is on. Open the paper output tray and top cover. Make sure the print head holder is in the center and open the inner cover. remove all the ink tanks. Raise the print head lock lever and remove the print head. Reset the print head and lock the lever. Replace the ink tanks. Any advice about what the problem is & how it can be fixed would be very welcome. by Anonymous on Dec 27, 2008 at 12:47am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Rob1,...According to the Service Manual there are 4 items that can give you that kind of error condition.1. - Carriage unit (QM2-1209)2. - Timing slit strip film (QC1-4284)3. - Logic board ass'y (QM2-1548)*14. - Carriage motor (QK1-0545The numbers are the Canon part number for the part.I think the most probable cause is that either the carriage is stuck at the home position because of the purge unit, or some piece of paper is jammed in the purge unit, or as the Canon Service manual has indicated,...the timing strip is either damaged, covered with splattered ink, or has come off.
