The printer works, i've got the EEPROM information print, see 2 below. Thanks for helping Peke I printed the ip4000 EEPROM report page using the info at the bottom of this message. What does the different number mean= It says I've printed PAGE (All=33659) over thirty thousand pages. Can't be true. More likely about 10 000. Start with the printer OFF 1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER 2. release RESUME (while still holding down the POWER)

3. press RESUME twice, then release POWER 4. The green light will blink and the printer will make some noise. Wait until this is finished, you are now in the printer's diagnostic mode. To select one of the functions below, use the RESUME button and then press POWER to execute: # of RESUME Presses - Light Color - Function 0 - green - Power Off 1 - orange - Service Test Print: Extended nozzle check pattern 2 - green - EEPROM information print 3 - orange - EEPROM initialize 4 - green - reset waste ink counter (For the Canon waste tank full error) There are other options beyond these first 5, but from what I hear they do things that you don't want to mess with. Lastly press Power. peke, Jan 10, 2009 #1 Jan 11, 2009 jflan Printing Ninja Joined: Feb 28, 2007 Messages: 336 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 99 Location: Vancouver, Washington Here is a link to the iP4000 Service Manual http://www.timtaylor.net/Tech_Stuff.htm All the error codes and EEPROM reset procedure will be listed therein. jflan, Jan 11, 2009 #2 Jan 11, 2009 peke Newbie to Printing Joined: Jan 10, 2009 Messages: 7 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 7 Hello, I've found the link already, but i didn't find something about my problem peke, Jan 11, 2009 #3 Jan 11, 2009 Tin Ho Printer Guru Joined: Apr 24, 2006 Messages: 834 Likes Received: 1 Trophy Points: 139 It is telling you that the printer is not recognizing one of the ink cartridges installed in the printer. doesnt' print the black ink. Tried all of the suggestions and finally ordered a new print head. canon pixma ip4000 driver download windows 7 It did not work originally so I put the machine through several deep cleanings and it started to print again. It was working fine for about 10 canon pixma ip4000 specs documents worth of printing and then suddenly the black ink on the printed documents started to fade. Now it is not printing anything (the machine makes noise and acts like it is printing). I am at my wits end! Any suggestions. Both of the black http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/canon-pixma-ip4000-error-orange-light-flashes-7-times.3245/ ink cartridges are Canon and full. I'm ready to throw the whole kit and kaboodle in the garbage. Someone wrote it could be the purge unit. Where is that and what do I do with it? Thanks for any suggestions. by jillmcelroy on Mar 1, 2009 at 9:19pm Add comment Please sign in to comment I agree, it sounds like the purge unit. The purge unit sits under the carriage at the right end of the printer. It's the small frighteningly complex mechanical assembly that you don't want to replace unless http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/47559 you're very comfortable doing that sort of thing. Part # QM2-1210 - unknown 0 My ip4000 has stopped printing black.(it initially stopped printing blue, but that problem has gone away). Cleaning the print head did not help, nor did replacing it with a brand new Canon print head. However, The printer will print black for one or two pages, when it has been sitting idle for several days - what does this tell us. The new print head did improve the printing of the colours, but did nothing for the black. Is there anything I can do? Is there anything a print technician can do for a reasonable price? (replacing the ink cartridge has not helped) I see in this thread that people mention the purge unit. is there anything i can try with this to test it out? How do I get at it? Is replacing it the only option? I have enjoyed this printer. If I have to now replace it - is there a comparable printer which takes cheap cartridges? (I hate having to buy expensive cartridges - it takes all the joy out of doing things myself - making cards, printing photos). Are there any printers you can recommend? by Merle Gering on Mar 17, 2009 at 3:20pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Merle,..The most probably cause is that the black suction tube at the bottom of the purge unit has come loose,... or the vacuum motor in the bottom of the purge unit is internally clogged, or damaged. I have created Repair Manuals for most every Canon printer in

HELP Jan 28, 2010 #1 canon pixma ip4000 Archean TechSpot Paladin Posts: 5,680 +85 As you say it flashes orange light five times consecutively, that means there is a print head error. Reset the print head, then reset the printer. To reset the print head, make sure the printer is on. Open the paper output tray and top cover. Make sure the print head holder is in the center and open the inner cover. remove all the ink tanks. Raise the print head lock lever and remove the print head. Reset the print head and lock the lever. Replace the ink tanks. Jan 28, 2010 #3 Archean TechSpot Paladin Posts: 5,680 +85 Well then it probably is an hardware issue; you may call to cannon tech support for help, I am sure they will be able to do something about it. However, if they tell you that the head may need to be replaced before making a decision on it please do check out whether it would be appropriate to get it fixed or buy a new one; and for that purpose I'd advise you to always buy an HP printer reason being its print heads are located on the cartridges themselves; hence they get replaced as the cartridge is replaced.
