Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect. It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode. From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models. If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able t
deep cleaning from the maintenance panel - and the problem remained. Then I got old fashioned - and tried Q-tips and alcohol on the business end of the print heads. After http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/59747 replacing all the tanks, black was PERFECT. But I apparently messed with the colors as THEY now don't print right. Did the cleaning, deep cleaning, and no resolution. So out comes the Q-tips and alcohol again. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/275780/Canon-Pixma-Mp520.html?page=72 Now I get No color printing. How bad have I messed this up? Do I need to replace my print head now (at 1/3 the cost or a replacement printer) - or is there some canon pixma way to resurrect this system? Thanks!Greg Respond to this 0 gregloew,... I don't think you have damaged you head. However I don't know how much alcohol you actually got into the nozzles. Just try several deep cleanings on the color to get it back.It would help if you could send me a sample picture of the nozzle check that you print. Scan it into a jpg image and use any photo editor to canon pixma mp520 enhance it so the colors are easily visible. Then compress it to document size. Send me an email by clicking on my USER ID and once I get that I can send you a reply and then you can send me the image over the internet. by unknown on Dec 21, 2008 at 11:20pm Add comment Please sign in to comment Hi Trigger,Thanks for the message. I appreciate the request for a direct printout - it will take a bit of trouble to do that - but I can summarize it pretty easily.. The black printout of the nozzle check shows only the part of the sample printed by the black nozzles. And it is good quality with no dropouts. There is absolutely no color ink printed on the paper whatsoever. I tried cleaning the printhead with alcohol - to the point that as I cleaned the 'paper side' of the print head, the colored ink/alcohol mixture leaked out of the ink tank side. Then I let the print head 'dry out' over night. Then re-inserted the head and tanks - and got the same thing. I am now pretty sure that I fried the color nozzles and will just order a new head. Of course the price for the head is a rip-o

The machine may not recognize the file if the file name or the folder path contains certain characters. Use only alphanumeric characters. Photo data edited or processed on a computer must be printed from the computer. If the lamp on the ink tank is flashing, ink may have run out. Replacing the ink tank is recommended. If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the OK button with the ink tank installed. Then printing can continue. Replacing the ink tank is recommended after the printing. The machine may be damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition. See "Replacing an Ink Tank" on page 43. Note If multiple ink lamps are flashing red, see "Getting the Ink Status Information" on page 43 and check the status of each ink tank. Ink has run out. (The lamp on the ink tank flashes.) Replace the ink tank and close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover). Printing under the current condition may damage the machine. If you want to continue printing in this condition, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the Stop/Reset button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it. With this operation, releasing the function for detecting the remaining ink level is memorized.
