This is not the top cover where you change the ink. Get to the back of the machine and you will see a little "grip" handle, pull it backwards and down and now you will have access to any paper

that jammed when feeding from the bottom tray. It is also a good idea to remove the bottom tray before doing this, so when you are looking for jammed paper you don't see the paper in the tray. If there is jammed paper it is likely to be near the top. A flashlight may aid you in seeing it. This is how I fixed mine. I'd forgotten there was a rear cover that could be opened too. Although I couldn't see any paper when I opened the rear cover, I tipped the machine sideways to check (probably not the best idea!), before pulling open the front covers again. For the first time, I noticed some odd stick thing lurking inside - and found that there was actually a wooden skewer stuck in there! And when I gently pulled on that, I also found a small, ink-soaked piece of paper.Turned the machine back on with some trepidation (the grinding sounds from the other day were still crystal clear in my memory) - but got the (oh-so-lovely-to-hear) normal printing sounds instead. You are a life saver! The message might be true or false both. The paper feeder mechanism is monitored by extremely sensitive sensors, if there is even a small piece of paper or dust diposited on the sensor it will show message. On the other hand, the message mght be fake too if the sensor is malfunctioning. Try your best to clean the paper slot , blow air into it , but if the message still get displayed, consult the Canon Authorised Service Center for assistance, as they have knowledge and tools to fix the error.
