A short history: Purchased new in October 2005, the type of printhead is incorrect still has original printhead, very light use (approx. 450 copies), typically one or two uses per week. Two weeks ago, an "incorrect print head, replace with the correct print head" error message suddenly appeared, the alarm light flashed and printer became completely unresponsive. I tried removing all tanks, reseating the print head, cleaning the print head using (a) water and (b) a Windex-equivalent -- no success. I switched the printer off and left it for a day or two -- when I switched back on, it worked! Test print good, images printed as expected. After about 2 hours, suddenly the "incorrect print head" message reappeared, printer again completely unresponsive. Turned off, left for a few hours, turned on, same error message. Switched off and left for another day, switched back on, working again! (I am not making this up.) After a few hours, died again. Left for another day or two, working again! Right now it's working. But in a few hours I'm guessing it won't be. I don't understand intermittent faults like this: what can cause error messages to appear one day, then disappear the next with no interventi
know how to get the printhead out of the machine. Can anyone tell me the procedure for releasing the printhead and their recommended cleaning method? Respond to this 0 Hi - I am a former Phone tech for Manufacture and the type of printhead is incorrect canon mg5320 removal of the Print head is pretty easy. Lift the release on the right after removing canon support code 1403 the Ink cartridges (recommend storing in airtight baggy to prevent evaporation of ink) The Print head should be free to move in its holder, canon print head replacement the objective is to rotate it out toward you from the top, I have had to occasionally had to use a small screwdriver inserted behind slightly to loosen the head from the holder. when it is free it will come out http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/mp760-giving-intermittent-print-head-error-message-faulty-test-print.4343/ easily. I have used these 2 methods successfully to clean clogged print heads:1 - Put the lower part in very warm water (NOT HOT) - you can damage the electronics in the head. Wipe off the head the receptacle and other accessible areas with LINT FREE towels. One area that causes poor printing is under the print head carriage, this is cleaned by using 2 ply paper folded and worked under the carriage repeatedly until no ink is found on the http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/62261 folded paper. The last printer I cleaned took over 2 hours to remove the build up of this ink. 2 - Put the lower part in 91\% Alcohol as a solvent to dissolve the hardened ink – the objective here is if the 1st doesn’t work try the second. Perform all the other cleaning steps as noted above. You only want just the print nozzles to be submerged in the solution, be careful not to touch the contacts with fingers; all cleaning is to be with lint free rags. I find this is a good time to take a look at the waste reservoirs at the ends of the carriage path to see if they need to be replaced or repaired.I hope this helps you in your printer woes. The Saltydog by saltydog on May 28, 2009 at 12:58pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Saltydog - thanks for the advice which I shall try out after the weekend. Could you clarify your reference to 91\% alcohol as this grade seems to be available in U.K. as methyl alcohol (methanol), ethyl alcohol (ethanol), isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and perhaps other sorts of alcohol. by pienter on May 29, 2009 at 1:44am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Yeah! After sooo many tries this is what worked; I removed the head and cleaned it with alcohol swabs. Thanks! My problem was 3e tank not printing even with a Canon bran
