to open the blinds, came back to the camera, and the error message showed up. On the display screen, it says "This memory card cannot be used. Card may be damaged. Insert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxnIxr3Zwko another card." Well, I know for a fact it CAN be used. And I also know that it's brand new. I inserted it into both slots, and still nothing. I can't shoot anything - it won't write. I also tried to format the card, which I failed to do before I started shooting. Could this be the cause? I tried a different SD card, and https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2971453 it worked fine. Right now, I want to say that the memory card is defective, but that would be really bad luck. Any suggestions?BTW, I inserted the memory card into my computer and it read and wrote files onto it just fine. I was thinking maybe it would have trouble if the memory card was broken - but it's not.So yeah, I have a brand new day old d7000 and I can't do anything with it. I might buy another card tomorrow but I'd like to avoid that. Could this be the cause?Yes that is likely the cause.ALWAYS format a memory card in the camera that it is intended for, never in a computer. If you tried to write to it, I am not sure how to rescue the card. You could try to format it in another camera. -- My photos http://brianshannon.smu

It's fantastic camera, but I am facing few problems: I am using 16GB San Disk memory card in slot 1. While taking photos, sometimes it shows a memory card error. If I turn off and turn on the camera it functions normally. But sometimes it happens again. Is this because of a defect in the camera or might it be because of the memory card? Sometimes when there is error showing about the memory card, when I memory card error turn off the camera, the control panel light continues to glow with the details. At that time I need to remove the battery. Or tried the same card in the other card slot (if possible)? Trying another card would help determine if it's the card or the camera. Also, have you tried reformatting the card? I can only guess that when the camera CP light stays on when you switch off the camera, it's because the camera is still trying to communicate with the card (to transfer an image or whatever). –MikeW♦ Nov 28 '11 at 8:33 @MikeW: I haven't tried in another slot. Will make a try and check how it goes. So as you mentioned, camera is trying to communicate with the card - so could be a card issue? I am afraid, should not be a camera issue. Thanks. Will check and update. –Shankar Nov 28 '11 at 9:41 I have tried another card and it has the same problem. (Though the cards are identical in make and model.) –aib Dec 3 '11 at 8:18 I have the same problem on my D7000 –user7598 Dec 11 '11 at 2:03 @jsquare: When did you bought that? 2011 Messages: 3 Likes Received: 0 Location: Brisbane, AU Can others edit my Photos: Photos NOT OK to edit Hi all, I need some advice (apologies if there's a more suitable place for this). I'm using a Brand New D7000 with a 16 GB SanDisk Extreme (30MB/s) Memory card. They've been working beautifully together all weekend, now the camera suddenly won't recognise the card. -E- shows permanently on the display. I can't format the card with the camera, as it doesn't even acknowledge the card is present. I've tried both slots, same issue. (Only tried/own one card though) The computer still reads the card without issue. At the time I noticed the problem, the battery indicator still shows about 1/4 to 1/3 charge. Also, I'm not sure if it's a related issue (card seating, etc.) but several photos taken over the weekend were not saved. No corrupt file, no skipped file number, but the camera went through all the usual motions of taking a shot - Shutter went off, flash where appropriate. It could have dropped out to a Demo-mode of sorts but I didn't notice any error messages at the time, and subsequent shots (without any changes) saved fine. Any thoughts? Many thanks! Also make sure there isn't a small piece or sliver of plastic on any of the contacts on the card or in the camera, there was one on mine and the D7000 acted the same way.
