Today, I was shooting and I literally got up to open the blinds, nikon d3100 memory card error came back to the camera, and the error message showed up. On the display screen, it says "This memory card cannot be used. Card may

be damaged. Insert another card." Well, I know for a fact it CAN be used. And I also know that it's brand new. I inserted it into both slots, and still nothing. I can't shoot anything - it won't write. I also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxnIxr3Zwko tried to format the card, which I failed to do before I started shooting. Could this be the cause? I tried a different SD card, and it worked fine. Right now, I want to say that the memory card is defective, but that would be really bad luck. Any suggestions?BTW, I inserted the memory card into my computer and it read and wrote files onto it just fine. I was thinking maybe it would have trouble if the memory card was broken - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2971453 but it's not.So yeah, I have a brand new day old d7000 and I can't do anything with it. I might buy another card tomorrow but I'd like to avoid that. Could this be the cause?Yes that is likely the cause.ALWAYS format a memory card in the camera that it is intended for, never in a computer. If you tried to write to it, I am not sure how to rescue the card. You could try to format it in another camera. -- My photos http://brianshannon.smugmug.com/ My photo blog http://brianshannonphotography.blogspot.com/ My Flickr stream http://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_shannon_photography/ beshannon's gear list:beshannon's gear list Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 Sigma DP2s Leica V-Lux (Typ 114) Nikon D800E Nikon 1 J4 +3 more Reply Reply with quote Complain kevinm86 OP • Forum Member • Posts: 80 Re: nikon d7000 - Memory Card error In reply to beshannon • Mar 14, 2011 So that would cause it to work then all of a sudden fail? After disposing of this card, I could see small pieces of plastic inside the slot near the pins. I managed to get them out (I think, never did find the debris) with long tweezers. So now the push to eject works properly. The new problem I'm now having, and to be honest it could have been happening for years but I've never run the camera with only one card before is this: I remove the card from slot 2, and the slot doesn't recognize I've taken the card out, and keeps on throwing "card" "Err" messages if I try and take a picture without the card. Most of the time, I can put the card back in and it will carry on working. I can see that if I get 2 cards in again, it will become transparent, but I would really like to fix it. I've up
