My Car Cd Player Says Error
what is doing this? shorod09-11-2006, 12:48 PMAre you referring to the in-dash deck, or a CD changer? Are you using a Sony changer with the factory deck, or you replaced the factory deck with a Sony deck? (Sony was the OEM of Ford audio for a few years, as was I believe Clarion and Alpine.) -Rod pacmanac09-11-2006, 02:46 PMHey. Thanks for the reply. I replaced the factory CD deck with Sony CD deck. No CD changer. Both give me the same error message and won't play CD's. Any idea? shorod09-11-2006, 10:33 PMIt sounds like this error means the deck is not able to read the CD. Are you using burned CDs, or purchased CDs? If burned, did you be sure the "close" the write session and not leave the CD open (multisession)? It could also be that the lens is dirty, the CD is damaged, or the CD is inserted upside down. Whatever the cause, the player is not able to read the CD. As for burned media, I see some people have had issues using media burned with a DVD burner (E-04) but success when using a regular CD burner. -Rod pacmanac09-12-2006, 01:46 PMAll the CD's I am using are not burned, but purchased CD's. I just think it's funny that both CD players are giving me the exact same error message. I will try cleaning the lense and see if that works. I know the Sony i replaced the factory CD player with had been sitting in a box for about 6 years. Thanks for your help. shorod09-12-2006, 08:54 PMThis won't be what you want to hear, but I am an electronics technician by hobby (electrical engineer by education) and the only CD player lasers that I've seen fail have all been Sony's. For what it's worth, I am not a fan of Sony audio products. Since Sony made audio systems for Ford at one time, it doesn't surprise me that you get the same error code on both, as your factory deck may have been Sony internals and software. It doesn't appear that really any external factors could cause the E-04 error code (assuming the deck is installed correctly and getting good supply voltage). Hopefully cleaning the lens will take care of your issues. If not, you may also want to try cleaning the spindle motor with electrical parts cleaner or DeOxit. If that doesn't work, the spindle platter may have "settled" and not be at the correct height, causing a focus issue. As a last result, you may try turning up the laser's power (t

Recently I have issues playing (recently burned) audio CDs in this CD player. It keeps giving me error E-04 (or E-4) and ejects the CD. I tried different CD media (ritek/imation/khypermedia). Every CD has the same problem. Some time, it plays couple of http://www.automotiveforums.com/t618242-cd_player_error_message.html tracks and get the error and ejects the CD. sometimes, it ejects the CD without playing a single track. When I searched on google for E-04, this is what I found: Err 04: Sub-Q error. The sub-Q code cannot be detected (twice withing five seconds). try another disc. It plays previously burned audio cds without any problem. (most recent audio cd that played well was burned around 6 months back). I tried http://club.myce.com/f3/audio-cd-error-e-4-car-cd-player-142908/ burning with Roxio Easy Media Creator v7, latest Nero version. I used CD burner in Dell Latitude D600 and Lite-on SOHW-1673s. How can I avoid this error? or what can I do fix the error? Is it problem with media or software or cd player? These are Taiyo Yuden dye - means Very Good. A DVD writer just won't do it for me. Officially my car stereo will not play CD-R media & wouldn't until I did just this. I was experiencing precisely the symptoms you're getting. I use Roxio EMC 7 so that's not the problem. 18-07-2005 #3 bunnyboy New on Forum Join Date: Mar 2005 Posts: 4 Re: Audio CD error e-4 in Car CD player Thanks TimC for the advise. I have DVD-ROM/CD Burner combo in the laptop. Do you recommend not to use this combo drive as well? CDs burned from this drive also did not play. Quote: Originally Posted by

Submitted: 6 years ago. Category:Car Electronics Share this conversation Expert: Aric replied6 years ago. Hello, The issue is most likely that the laser lens in the CD player itself is dirty, and not the disc. It may have been initially e 04 error caused by a dirty disc that contaminated the lens. You can try several methods of cleaning the laser lens to see if it helps clear up the problem. The first is to purchase a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner disc, and run it through the system several times. If your player is not reading any discs at all though, then try purchasing a can of compressed air (available at Staples, or Wal-Mart). You can either spray the compressed air directly into the CD slot, or for a more thorough method, remove the screws on the rear of the top cover and expose the internals, then spray the can approximately 6-10" away from the lens. If it still doesn't work, you can opt to clean the lens eye itself, by using isopropyl alcohol, and a lint-free cloth to gently wipe the "eye". Then use a dry spot on the cloth to buff the eye clean. If the CD player is still not reading discs, then the lens or transport mechanism is faulty and would need to be replaced. If this answers your question, please click "Accept".
