Year: 1997 Make: Pontiac Model: Firebird Engine: 3.8L V6 pontiac g6 cd player Transmission: Automatic Posted 13 December 2012 - 06:08 PM I just wanted to give a quick explination of how I fixed my monsoon stereo with an E20 error... while was at the junkyard getting a new door for my 97 FIrebird I happened pontiac vibe cd player to notice an 02 firebird down the line... so I thought id check it for some of the internal parts Im looking for... well it did not have any... but the trim around the stereo and AC had been removed (aswell as the AC controlls) and since my CD player would not work in my Firebird I thought I would take this one... so I did when I finally got around to messing with it I plugged the 02 stereo into my car and it had

the same issue... E20... and it spit the CD back out (which was better than keeping it I suppose) well I did some googeling and realized that E20 ment the cd player could not focus on the CD that was inserted into it... HRMM... why not?!? common sense says its dirty... so I took out the screws holding the CD player into the stereo... there are 2 on the back (T10s) and 1 on the side and one on the top (both smaller than T10) and undid the wire harness that was pluged into the CD player itself... I gave it a good once over... found the lense... it looked fine... but I gave it a good blow to make sure it wasnt just dusty... put the 02 stereo back together... pluged it up... and sure enough the dern thing worked... no more E20... I also read that some people got the E20 while they were driving and hit a bump... so I gave it a good shake(while plugged in and working) and while it did skip it did not give any error... NOW I had an issue... the 97 stereo was the Monsoon and I loved the way it sounded (radio always worked) but the 02 was not... I did notice some chips were different on the boards so I decided to take the 02 CD player and put it in the 97 stereo... (that and the 97 stereo looked waaay better, the 02 had a few melt spots, probably from an idiot smoker pushin

FOR THAT AMOUNT I HAVE A DOWN PAYMENT FOR A NEW CD PLAYER.. isaiahshan11-18-2004, 07:50 AMThat code means that http://www.firebirdnation.com/forums/topic/450972-e20-error-fix-;/ is not scanning properly because the eye needs to be adjusted. It will need to go the the dealer to have it fixed. The same thing happened to my Grand Prix. I just went to a salvage yard and got another. They let me try it out before I bought it http://www.automotiveforums.com/t318857-error_code_e20_on_cd_player.html and it worked perfectly. (it was in even better condition than the broke one) WRBsGTP11-18-2004, 07:51 AMI'm not positive, but I think it means that your CD player is overheating. Same thing happened to a friend who went to the dealer, and I think that's what they told her. But I am almost 90% positive it is pontiac g6 cd either a unreadable disc error or a cd player internal failure error. If you are using a new & good disc, then the problem will mostly be inside the cd laser & a failure within that part of your radio. Which usually means you will have to replace the radio asy. You can try to buy an cd cleaner but I have never had any success with those. Also, if you are trying to use a burned cd with an aftermarket or homemade label attached to it will also cause weird problems with some of these cd players. Some systems do not like the burned cd's with those stick-on labels you can use. But if you are using a store bought genuine music cd with no scratches, then the problem is inside your radio. If you want it replaced with a GM radio, the dealership will need the part number off your old radio to call it in to price out the replacement model. Last time I checked, they run around $300.00-$600.00 depending on model of radio Source(s): Humveetech · 6 years ago 0 Thumbs up 0 Thumbs down Comment Add a comment Submit · just now Asker's rating Report Abuse E20 or CHECK CD : Cause(s): The CD player cannot focus on the disc or there is an internal focus problem.
