Cd Player In Car Wont Take Cd
already know the answer, but I'm hoping for a miracle here. My 2004 Jeep Liberty CD player will not play CD's anymore. You can hear the CD spinning and spinning, but after about fifteen seconds, an error message comes up. I assumed the lens needed cleaning, so I purchased a CD lens cleaner and, you guessed it, it will not play that CD either. Duh! I have read that removing the radio fuses and then plugging them back in will "reset the CD player back to factory settings." I tried that, and all it did was set my radio's clock back to 12:00! I'm pretty sure the answer to the question is "that's a shame... buy a new car stereo." But if anyone has any bottom of the ninth, two outs suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks! Update: Ya Alex, I pulled mine out of the dash too... Problem is it looks like it will be like breaking into Fort Knox to get at the lens.... I'll probably end up over-paying for some car stereo joint to fix it. Either that, or probably end up breaking the thing. Thanks! If you own your car for a long time, you will likely be faced with the task of fixing or replacing the player in your car at some point. The Basics of How to Fix a Car CD Player Just because a car CD player is electronic doesn't mean that you should be afraid to open it up and attempt to do your own repairs. Many people assume that a CD player is a complicated electronic device, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The player is actually made up of just a few mechanical parts that can break, and repairing those parts is sometimes surprisingly simple. Simple
3 months ago and then would give me a error message when i would try to play a CD. The message read E-04 on the CD player display. The radio and everything else worked great. I just replaced the factory CD player with a Sony CD player and when i went http://www.automotiveforums.com/t618242-cd_player_error_message.html to play a CD, it gave me the same error message on the screen. Anyone have any ideas what is doing this? shorod09-11-2006, 12:48 PMAre you referring to the in-dash deck, or a CD changer? Are you using a Sony changer with the factory deck, http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Stuck-CD-from-a-Car-CD-Player or you replaced the factory deck with a Sony deck? (Sony was the OEM of Ford audio for a few years, as was I believe Clarion and Alpine.) -Rod pacmanac09-11-2006, 02:46 PMHey. Thanks for the reply. I replaced the factory CD deck with Sony CD cd player deck. No CD changer. Both give me the same error message and won't play CD's. Any idea? shorod09-11-2006, 10:33 PMIt sounds like this error means the deck is not able to read the CD. Are you using burned CDs, or purchased CDs? If burned, did you be sure the "close" the write session and not leave the CD open (multisession)? It could also be that the lens is dirty, the CD is damaged, or the CD is inserted upside down. Whatever the cause, the player is not able to read car cd player the CD. As for burned media, I see some people have had issues using media burned with a DVD burner (E-04) but success when using a regular CD burner. -Rod pacmanac09-12-2006, 01:46 PMAll the CD's I am using are not burned, but purchased CD's. I just think it's funny that both CD players are giving me the exact same error message. I will try cleaning the lense and see if that works. I know the Sony i replaced the factory CD player with had been sitting in a box for about 6 years. Thanks for your help. shorod09-12-2006, 08:54 PMThis won't be what you want to hear, but I am an electronics technician by hobby (electrical engineer by education) and the only CD player lasers that I've seen fail have all been Sony's. For what it's worth, I am not a fan of Sony audio products. Since Sony made audio systems for Ford at one time, it doesn't surprise me that you get the same error code on both, as your factory deck may have been Sony internals and software. It doesn't appear that really any external factors could cause the E-04 error code (assuming the deck is installed correctly and getting good supply voltage). Hopefully cleaning the lens will take care of your issues. If not, you may also want to try cleaning the spindle motor with electrical parts cleaner or DeOxit. If that doesn't work, the spindle platter may have "settled" and not be at the correct height, causing a focus issue. As a last result, you may try turning up the laser's power (there is usuall

Thus, stuck CDs in cars can be a particularly annoying problem. Luckily, a variety of DIY fixes exist for this common headache. Note, however, that, if done improperly, some of these fixes can damage your player (or the CD stuck in it). The advice in this article shouldn't be a substitute for the opinion of an automotive expert. See Step 1 below to get started. Steps Method 1 Using the Power and Eject Buttons 1 Turn the car off. Some CD players have a "force eject" function that's specifically designed to get CDs out when other methods have failed. Because this method doesn't require you to tamper with your CD player in any way, it's smart to start here - you have nothing to lose if it doesn't work. First, turn your car off if it isn't already. 2 While the car is off, hold the power and the eject button. Press your CD player's power and eject buttons down at the same time, holding them for about ten seconds. If your stereo has a "force eject" feature, it should spit out the CD. 3 If this doesn't work, start the car and try again. Some CD players may not function when the car is turned off. For these players, try pressing and holding the power and eject buttons while the car is running. 4 Consult the player's manual. The po
