2014 by Alex Barbos A BIOS checksum error is one of the most common errors you can encounter when you build your own computer, perform a hardware upgrade or attempt to bring back to life a computer that hasn’t been used for a long time. If it sounds like main bios checksum error solution a scenario that’s not very likely to happen to you, think again, as computers became so

to build your own computer is as simple as taking this online course, so the possibility of coming across a BIOS checksum error one day is higher than you think. The error indicates that the BIOS is incorrectly configured or

corrupted, preventing the computer from booting normally; unlike operating system errors or software errors that occur after your computer is up and running, a BIOS checksum error will render it inoperable right after you power it on, so it’s no wonder this type of error can seem like something really serious. Fortunately, it is not as scary as it seems, and fixing it is quite easy. BIOS Basics In order to understand what triggers the BIOS checksum error, what the error bad checksum lottery means and how you can fix it, it is necessary to understand what the BIOS is and how it works. Simply put, the Basic Input/Output System, or BIOS, is a program that checks if all the components necessary for the computer to run are present; if everything is ok, the BIOS gives the processor the necessary instructions on how to proceed and load the operating system. Before the boot code in the BIOS is executed, though, the BIOS data is checked for authenticity by comparing one of its values, known as a checksum, against a value stored in a memory chip called CMOS; if the values match, it means that everything is working correctly, so the boot code is executed and the computer starts normally. However, if the checksums do not match, it means that something interfered with the BIOS, so the computer displays a BIOS checksum error and stops the boot process. Causes of BIOS Checksum Errors There are two scenarios that can trigger a BIOS checksum error: Something interacts with the BIOS code and interferes with the checksum it generates; Something alters the pre-defined checksum values present in the CMOS memory. The first scenario usually occurs when an incompatible piece of hardware is installed, as it will fail to pass the initial hardware check performed by the BIOS, and thus return a BIOS checksum error. A BIOS checksum error can also be generated by an incorrectly performed

I have how to clear cmos checksum error a strange issue after installing ML. On every start my BIOS says: Checksum error, defaults loaded. I use a removable SSD for ML, cmos checksum bad after bios update and a removable HDD for WIN7. The strange thing: Using WIN7 I dont't have the BIOS problem. Shutting down ML and starting again: BIOS checksum error! People have suggested loading the config defaults and redoing the necessary changes for the OS X https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/bios-cmos-checksum-error.69093/ installation. Have you upgraded the bios recently? It could be corruption of the flashed bios. You could try a bios upgrade. To tell you the truth, I could not solve the problem on the computer. The most annoying thing about the error is that it wipes my boot sequence preferences and I can only boot form DVD or SATA port 1. Let me know if you find a solution. I start the computer and immediately enter the BIOS to check the CPU temperature it displays 80°C even though the CPU is not overclocked yet; http://www.onexeno.com/k7n2-il-bios/ it also happens at 1100 MHz physical and 1.5Vcore. The computer runs stable and the CPU does not get hot. Sometimes the sensor also displays +4°C or +12°C, varying a lot. The update page shows a BIOS fix for the temperature sensor of similar boards, but not the MS-6729 series. The MSI site contains no information about the MS-6729 at all! Any checksum error ideas, comments, suggestions?Advertisement Replay Thanks, I may try this, but do you think this BIOS version works on my board? After all, the K7N2 has the designation "MS-6750 Series" and the K7N2-IL is "MS-6729 Series" and the auto update couldn't automatically find a BIOS for my board. The cooler is ok I assume (water cooling), I had the computer running for a bios checksum error couple of minutes with 80°C displayed in the health monitor while pressing the cooler on the CPU with my hand, then I switched off the computer and immediately took the cooler away to touch the CPU DIE with my finger (gently like a woman of course ) and it was barely warmer than my finger, definitely far below 80°C.
