to slap some RAM in my notebook and it should have only been a 30 second ordeal but instead I've spent checksum error on boot all evening trying to figure out what went wrong. The ram I purchased should have worked with no problems. I purchased 2 sticks of 1gb pc2700 200 pin, ddr so.dimm trump brand ram. which is what
Checksum Error Detection Method
crucial.com said I need. At first I put both sticks of ram in and my bios refused to detect either stick. So I tried one stick which again wasn't recognized in either slot. I tried the other stick and this time it was recognized and attempted to load windows. Then I got a "header file might be corrupted" checksum error. The screen went black. I rebooted. I got the same error what is a checksum error but this time I also got a windows file loading screen. Just black screen with white words and a progress bar. It got stuck at the end of loading the windows file and I finally had to turn it off a half hour later. So I put my original stick of 512 back in along with one of the sticks of 1gb. My bios recognized both sticks and windows was able to load after doing a recovery. Then I noticed that the lights on notebook were very dim and some weren't lit up at all. I also noticed I didn't hear the fan running. Then the computer turned off again. It wouldn't boot up after that. So I'm back to my original stick of lousy 512 mgb and all is running well. At first I thought maybe the stick was advertised as low density but really wasn't because I noticed when I took the RAM out they were HOT. but they are indeed low density chips. They are the same brand and came together, new, sealed in package of 2. I"m at a loss. Do I return the sticks and go with kingston or is this just a problem with my system? I do know my bios is outdated but t

Checksum Error While Installing Game
03:28 in Motherboards Share nsomniak21 29 March 2013 00:04:55 This has been a huge resource for me over checksum error meaning the last several years as I've learned to build and maintain my computer but the most recent issue has me stumped. I built my computer in 2009 with a 790FX-Gd70 http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/hardware-advice/45785-ram-checksum-error-help.html board and 2x2GB sticks of G. Skill RAM. It has worked flawlessly. I've now tried to upgrade to 8GB (2x4GB) and the rotten thing either wont post or hangs after the first Windows scroll bar pops up. Usually the first time booting it will get to that first windows screen and any time I boot afterwards without resetting CMOS, http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1637566/cmos-checksum-bad-installing-ram.html it won't post. I've tried to add RAM several times over the last year or so from a variety of different manufacturers and its always the same problem. I've manually set the timings and voltage, auto set the timings and voltage, run memtest, changed the position of the sticks, etc etc etc with each and every try and nothing has worked. However, as soon as I plug the old 2x2GB sticks back in everything runs smooth. If anyone has any ideas please let me know as I am lost and 4GB just doesn't cut it anymore.
