holds a Legal database. We use ODBC to the SQL database to create reports in Access. The users haveThin clients connected to Terminal Services 2003 and they use Office / Access 2002. connection failed sqlstate 08001 sql server error 17 The problem started whenthe database was upgraded from MSSQL2000 to MSSQL2005. The ODBC connection works100% correctly when logged in as a network administrator. If a normal user logs in and tries one of the reports or queries, the connection fails. The only message is "ODBC Connection xxxxxx Failed." I assume there is a security issue somewhere that is preventing normal operation. However I connection failed sqlstate 28000 sql server error 18452 do not know what or where to change it. The system uses MS SQL Server Express 2005 (default install) The Access database is in a folder with FULL control. There is NO security on the Access database. I removed all folder security - did not help. The SQL database is in a folder with full control. The SQL database login correctly allows read only access to the JURISRPT2 user. Everything works as Administrator Everything is blocked as any other user If I try torelink the tables in Access (as a non administrative user) I get:Connection FailedSQL State '08004'SQL Server Error: 4060Server Rejected the Connection; Access to the selected database has been denied. What provider are you trying to use? TCP/IP, Named Pipes? Has that provider been enabled? Is there a firewall in place and have you opened up the port to the client? Does this happen intermittently? If so, do you have enough licenses available when the error occurs? You might want to check the server error logs (and your client event log, too) for more information. share|improve this answer answered Apr 9 '09 at 11:18 tvanfosson 350k65567700 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote User credentials are ok, but user doesn't have the right to connect to the given database, you should grant him all rights needed... share|improve this answer answered Sep 24 '12 at 16:44 que dal 711 1 could you elaborate how this might be done? –Andy Hayden Sep 24 '12 at 20:57 what happens is that the user/pass are provided to sql, AND credentials

Scenario is this: Old version of app was CR9. New version of app is CR XI R2 Sp6, .NET. App is 32-bit. Old development environment was XP against an Access database. Customers are either Access or MS SQL Server. New development environment is Win7 64-bit.Only one customer got that 4060 error. He was on Xp 32-bit. Only two reports exhibited the error and I found out that I had changed the report database from the default access one to a file dsn that pointed to a SQL database whilst fixing some bugs.Changing the report database to a system DSN that pointed to a SQL database did not fix the problem, but changing it to an Access database DSN did?So what fixed the problem was to open the report, Database, Set database (Second menu item from top) and point to another DSN. Save report. Copy to client PC and it now reported correctly on that machine, against a SQL database. What puzzles me is why it did this? Ie the app itself changes the database connection when running the report, yet the old DSN mattered? The report is NOT set to save data with the report. 8302Views Re: The dreaded "database error 4060" Ludek Uher Jan 31, 2012 5:07 PM (in response to Anders Gustafsson) Currently Being Moderated Hello Anders Hard to say. Any number of variables (or combination thereoff) could have been the cause. E.g.; 1) 32 bit vs 64 bit DSN (There are two versions of the ODBC on a 64-bit server.) 2) DB client 3) Never use file DSN - always use System DSN with CR 4) Looking up the error in the database documentation may have also helped: Error 4060 - Server rejected the connection; Access to selected database has been denied. E.g.; there may have been lack of execute permissions on some object in the SQL db and not the Access db(?) And so on...
