Try a server that is closer to your location, or just another server in general. For a rizon server list, try the network's website - search Google if you don't kknow the website address. Whilst you're there, you might try contacting the network administration and say you're having issues connecting.Do you get Connection Refused with every network you try? (Try irc.dal.net, irc.quakenet.org, irc.undernet.org and so on).Regards, _________________________ Mentality/Chris Top #87382 - 18/06/04 01:42 PM Re: What does ""connection refused" mean? romVsen Pikka bird Registered: 18/03/04 Posts: 10 I get that

Mentality Planetary brain Registered: 01/06/03 Posts: 5024 Loc: London, England I believe the Y-lines in the server's IRCd settings will be affecting it (Or I-lines?) and it's most likely due to location. You could, once connected to the network, use /admin servername.* and see who the Server Administrator is, and try emailing them about the issue. If you do, include your IP, hostname and location (country).Regards, _________________________ Mentality/Chris Top #87384 - 18/06/04 05:45 PM Re: What does ""connection refused" mean? zaz Babel fish Registered: 25/05/04 Posts: 50 It could also mean that the specific server you want to connect to is no longer at that IP/Host. When you are connected to the same network try /links to see what servers are linked to the network. Also try /dns servername.here.com to see what IP resolves for the server you are trying. If the DNS has been changed to say 127.0.0.1 to stave off a DDoS flood then you will be trying to connect to yourself instead of the IRC Server. Since you don't have anything accepting connections you should get a "connection refused" or the more likely

It seems like Irssi is connecting to the bear.freenode.net, and bear.freenode.net is actively refusing my connection? Any ideas? Your server is refusing connections, and its not just you. I can't connect to it either, and pinging it gives me Pinging bear.freenode.net [78.129.250.51] with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Ping statistics for 78.129.250.51: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), IRC has other error messages should you be banned such as gline. Its more likely the server is just down, and using the generic freenode domain name -itv.freenode.net (ubuntu's irc domain points at freenode too)is usually a better idea, so you can be pointed to the right server. That said, if there's a good reason you think you got a server side ban, its a good time to re-examine the error of your ways share|improve this answer answered Oct 16 '13 at 14:05 Journeyman Geek♦ 92.7k29171287 Thankyou, but I was just theorising that I was banned :) –Starkers Oct 16 '13 at 16:00 add a comment| You must log in to answer this question. I am getting "connection refused" through both clients. I have a feeling it might be because I'm on my campus' network and it's somehow blocking it, but I haven't had a problem with ports yet. Any ideas? I tried changing the port in mIRC, but it still tried to connect with the default 6667 and failed.Thanks. There isn't really a good way around this as your campus or school connection might actually think this server is a threat of some sort. Personally, I cannot log onto ETG from school no matter what I do, but at home, it's fine. Generally, what I would do is that I would not use the defaults they use. Try 7000, or 6666 or 6668. Sometimes those are more reliable than 6667. This, of course, is dependent on the server you're trying to access of course. Good luck.
 Sengin Roll (+350) Members 380 posts Posted March 18, 2008 Well, I figured out the problem. It was my virus scanner (McAffee). Lately it's being a whiny bitch about everything (I can't disable it, everything is causing it to think something is hijacking my computer, etc...). Apparently it has a rule set that blocks mIRC from con
