Connection Refused We see a lot of questions to the effect When I try to connect to a system I get a message Connection refused Why is this ? networking connection-refused share|improve this question edited Sep 28 '15 at 16:54 HBruijn♦ 32k65287 asked Sep 28 '15 at 12:13 Hangin on in quiet desperation 88.1k9114200 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 36 down vote accepted Note: This message is a symptom of the problem you are trying connection refused python to solve. Understanding the cause of the message will ultimately lead you to solving your problem. The message 'Connection Refused' has two main causes: Nothing is listening on the IP:Port you are trying to connect to. The port is blocked by a firewall. No process is listening. This is by far the most common reason for the message. To determine if this is the problem, on the remote system run netstat or ss1 e.g. if you are expecting a process to be listening on port 22222 sudo netstat -tnlp | grep :22222 or ss -tnlp | grep :22222 For OSX a suitable command is sudo netstat -tnlp tcp | grep '\.80 ' If nothing is listening then the above will produce no output. If you see some output then confirm that it's what you expect then see the firewall section below. If you don't have access to the remote system and want to confirm the problem before reporting it to the relevant administrators you can use tcpdump (wireshark or similar). When a connection is attempted to an IP:port where nothing is listening, the response from the remote system to the initial SYN packet is a packet with the flags RST,ACK set. This closes the connection and causes the Connection Refused message e.g. $ sudo tcpdump -n host 192.0.2.1 and port 22222 tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on enp14s0, link-type EN10MB (Et

I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: Network error: Connection refused. Then, I dont't change anything, try to login a few times more, wait a while and try again. Sometimes I can log in, sometimes I cannot. It seems pretty random to me. What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text. I connection refused have a server script(server.py): #!/usr/bin/python import socket #import the socket module s = socket.socket() #Create a socket object host = socket.gethostname() #Get the local machine name port = 12397 # Reserve a port for your service s.bind((host, port)) #Bind to the port s.listen(5) #Wait for the client connection while True: c,addr = s.accept() #Establish a connection with the client print "Got connection from", addr c.send("Thank you for connecting!") c.close() and client script (client.py): #!/usr/bin/python import socket #import socket module 1 connection refused s = socket.socket() #create a socket object host = '192.168.1.94' #Host i.p port = 12397 #Reserve a port for your service s.connect((host, port)) print s.recv(1024) s.close I go to my desktop terminal and start the script by typing: python server.py after which, I go to my laptop terminal and start the client script: python client.py but I get the following error: File "client.py", line 9, in s.connect((host, port)) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/socket.py", line 224, in meth return getattr(self._sock,name)(*args) socket.error: [Errno 111] Connection refused I've tried using different port numbers to no avail. It often helps me. Type in your terminal telnet [IP] 12397 (replace IP with what gethostname() returns). If you do it so you should see Thank you for connecting. If not, please show me what telnet returned. –Matt3o12 Apr 21 '13 at 11:56 telnet works for me, but every command I send creates a HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request and closes connection. –Patrizio Bertoni Mar 20 '15 at 17:21 Stackoverflow's question also helps some time. –Ajay Gupta Sep 9 '15 at 15:01 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 41 dow
