Possible causes are: - vnc server connection refused 10061 Broken TCP stack on the second machine - Broken DNS setip on the second machine (what form of VNC Viewer address do you use?) - A firewall configuration at the server that permits connection refused 10061 vnc viewer linux connections only from certain addresses - A firewall configuration at the server that permits connections only via certain network interfaces - Some sort of firewall software on the second machine, that is aborting the connection at the source. It only happens when the remote machine isnt logged on. If the machine has a user logged on VNC connects fine. I cant figure out why I can VNC to the login screen on some, and others it just dumps me out with that error and not display the login screen. Try logging onto that machine and trying to vnc again and I bet it works. If you find a solution im dying to know. [closed] up vote 2 down vote favorite I purchased a vps and configured it by using this tutorial (means installed GENOM desktop and VNC server): http://www.time4vps.eu/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=41 Then I installed tiger VNC viewer and Real VNC Viewer plus. I tried to connect to the server by using the server name and also the ip address using the two software. But I am getting : (connection refused : connection refused 10061 error 10061). What I did : I restarted vnc server : logged in as root. On terminal : vncserver stop. On terminal : vncserver start. I googled and found out that, one of the reason may be entering wrong password multiple time. Password have not entered even once, so no chance of entering wrong passwords multiple time. I checked with netstat -a. It shows : 0.0.0.0:5900 is listening I am behind router, so portforwarded the router to local ip and port no. All this do not work. Kindly tell me what mistake I am doing. Thanks in advance. Connection over SSH - connection refused Issues related to configuring your network Post Reply Print view Search Advanced search 4 posts • Page 1 of 1 ben87 Posts: 2 Joined: 2011/08/17 10:38:35 [SOLVED] VNC Connection over SSH - connection refused Quote Postby ben87 » 2011/08/20 21:45:11 HelloTo begin with, I am fairly new to linux, so please forgive me for anything too obvious!I have been through the various setup guides for setting up a VNC connection to centos, and also for settign up an SSH connection to Centos. Unfortunately I just cannot get VNC to work over an SSH connection, as it states the following error - 'Unable to connect to hos: Connection refused (10061)My Centos server is set with a public IP, I am connecting from a windows 7 PC using Putty for SSH, and realvnc viewer for vnc.If I edit the /etc/sysconfig/vncservers so that its following -VNCSERVERS="1:root"VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1024x768"My firewall is disabled for testing, and can connect fine from client machine over the internet. So, I then edit the file so that it is the following -VNCSERVERS="1:root"VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1024x768 -localhost"Then i establish a putty SSH connection with a forwarded port like so -L5801 localhost:5801The SSH connection establishes fine, and I log in as root on the CLI.I then launch the VNC viewer again, this time specifying 'localhost:1', and I get a connection refused. Now I'm not sure if this is connected, but when I start the VNCserver service, i get this message -service vncserver restartShutting down VNC server: 1:root [ OK ]Starting VNC server: 1:root xauth: (stdin):1: bad display name "freeswitch1.localdomain:1" in "add" commandNew 'freeswitch1.localdomain:1 (root)' desktop is freeswitch1.localdomain:1Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartupLog file is /root/.vnc/freeswitch1.localdomain:1.log [ OK ]Not sure if this is related, the service starts successfully none the less.Should it be a problem using the root account for the vnc session?Any suggestions are very much appreciated!ThanksBen Top ben87 Posts: 2 Joined: 2011/08/17 10:38:35 Re: VNC Connection over SSH - connection refused Quote Postby ben87 »
