At your job, do you use a proxy to access the internet? If so, the configuring Maven to use the proxy should work. However, if you IT department has a firewall that prevents you for getting to Maven Central, you'll have to get them to give you access. By the way, have you tried entering http://repo.maven.apache.org in your browser?
