Contrary to what portmap's manpage claims, I found that portmap is actually not needed in /etc/hosts.allow.perhaps because it isn't linked against tcpwrapper. It usually means the process is not running but it could mean that the wrong port is used. It could also be that the server is wrong, of course. Also, things could block the port like a firewall but I don't know if that would result in a Connection Refused. Do you have portmap, nfsd, mountd, statd, etc running on the server? mountd and statd on the client? In /etc/hosts.allow, you need to specify what machines can access these specific programs. Check the troubleshooting section of the NFS howto, it's very useful. Helllllllllllllllllllllllllp Please don't do that.
