I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The network error connection refused putty windows 10 problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: Network error: Connection refused. Then, I dont't change anything, try to login a few times more, wait a while and try again. Sometimes I can log in, sometimes I cannot. It seems pretty random to me. What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text. Putty Network Error Software Caused Connection Abort
error: Connection refused You may get this message when connecting to a server for following reasons: You are connection refused ssh ubuntu trying to use WinSCP for a purpose for which it is not designed. WinSCP needs a SSH or FTP server to be installed at the other end (on the http://askubuntu.com/questions/30080/how-to-solve-connection-refused-errors-in-ssh-connection machine you want to connect to). In particular, you cannot easily use it to connect to another Windows workstation, since Windows does not have an SSH or FTP server included by default. Please refer to FAQ. You are trying to use protocol that the server does not support. Particularly you are trying SFTP/SCP (over SSH), but the server https://winscp.net/eng/docs/message_connection_refused supports FTP; or vice versa. Check selected protocol on login dialog. Note that WinSCP defaults to SFTP protocol, while most other similar applications default to FTP. The server is running on non-standard port. Please make sure you enter actual port number on login dialog. You may need to connect through proxy server, but you have not specified one on Proxy page of Advanced Site Settings dialog. Connection was blocked by firewall. Please refer to FAQ. If you are trying to use WinSCP to connect to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, please refer to FAQ. I restarted Ubuntu and now I can't SSH on port 22 from my Windows machine on the same network with PuTTY. The following message appears: Now this is fairly common as I've seen from the dozens of sites that mention it (even here on Ubuntu's forums, but I haven't found the solution in them yet). What I've tried: 1). restart ssh service: Code: /etc/init.d/ssh restart I tried the same thing with sshd but that doesn't exist on my system and can't be located with apt-get -- just mentioning that because I've seen it on a few of the forums I've read so far. 2). make sure port 22 is open in firewall. Code: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT 3). restarting, and that obviously hasn't worked. Please let me know if you'd like me to post the output from various commands, will do so promptly. Thank you for your time, Brandon Doyle Adv Reply Reply With Quote August 12th, 201

Other than a similar name and purpose, the two have nothing in common.
