Upon inspection of the server properties, all seemed to be in working order, but no matter what i did, i was met with the "530 Connection refused, unknown IP address."-error. I noticed there were no questions or answers that were helpful to my specific problem, and none were readily avaliable via MS or even extensive googling. The closest i could get to a satisfying answer was the webpage "Funny things computers say", which stated that this error message is lying through its teeth. 0 Question by:allerit Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution byallerit I did eventually solve this problem, by going through the following steps. Join Now I am running Server 2003, IIS 6, FTP services, been running for about 8 years. About a week ago some of the external users began having problems. I finally found in IIS the FTP sites properties there is a tab "Directory Security", and the ip addresses in question are being blocked. I also can open FTP Security Configuration and under a tab labeled IIS Ban List see the same list of IP addresses. I have deleted and removed these addresses many times, started and restarted services many times, but each time someone from one of these ip addresses tries to connect they are blocked and when I https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23884558/FTP-530-Connection-refused-unknown-IP-address.html refresh the Directory Security tab all the ip addresses reappear. Can anyone help in clearing and setting it so they don't come back? I did upgrade my watchguard firewall about a month ago, but the policies stayed the same. Edit and change the IP to 0.0.0.0 or something and see if it will keep it at that? 0 Jalapeno OP Sceva Aug 8, 2013 at 11:45 UTC Good suggestion, but no luck. Here is a shot of the other place that has information about security. 0 Jalapeno OP Sceva Aug 9, 2013 at 12:15 UTC Some additional info. I can access it on the LAN without a problem. I first thought it was a firewall problem but after checking that and not finding anything being blocked on the firewall I began checking the server. I suppose it could be a combination firewall/Directory Security issue. I have been unsuccessful in finding any documentation on the FTP Security Configuration module online to help. Here is an event error that shows up: FTP Server could not create a client worker thread for user at host x.x.x.x. The connection to this user is terminated. The data is the error. This has something to do with caching, and I added the reg key recommended but no change. 0 Jalapeno OP Sceva Aug 9, 2013 at 12:25 UTC If I try to connect via ftp in a command prompt: Connected to file.abc.com. 530 Connection refused, unknown IP address. 421 Service not available, closing control connection.
