machine you want to connect to). In particular, you cannot easily use it to connect to another Windows workstation, since Windows does not have an SSH or FTP server included by default. Please refer to FAQ. You are trying to use protocol that the server does not support. Particularly you are trying SFTP/SCP (over SSH), but the server connection refused ssh supports FTP; or vice versa. Check selected protocol on login dialog. Note that WinSCP defaults to SFTP protocol, while most other similar applications default to FTP. The server is running on non-standard port. Please make sure you enter actual port number on login dialog. You may need to connect through proxy server, but you have not specified one on Proxy page of Advanced Site Settings dialog. Connection was blocked by firewall. Please refer to FAQ. If you are trying to use WinSCP to connect to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, please refer to FAQ. I've tried a lot of things, but I've had no success. I need to use WinSCP so I can change permissions in files. iFunBox doesn't have this feature to view properties unfortunately. I am trying to start my own repo, but I need this to get it going. The problem I'm having is Network Error: Connection Timed Out. I put in my iPod's IP, root in username and alpine in password, but it never works. I do have OpenSSH and afc2add installed and using Vista, If anyone has suggestions on helping me with this issue, please reply.
 DOCTER KILLE 68 Ultimate VIP 68 2.0k posts iDeviceiPhone 4 Firmware6.0.1 Posted September 9, 2011 This means your internet is bad at the moment. I've seen this topic posted https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2611734?tstart=0 around the web, but there seem to be no answers available. i'm wondering if anyone has solved it.On 10.5.8, allowing remote network connections should be relatively straightforward. System Preferences -> Sharing -> Remote Login: OnIt has a green light, along with the following underneath it:"To log in to this computer remotely, type "ssh myname@mycomputer"."Great. So, I ssh to another machine, and type "ssh myname@mycomputer".I get the result, "ssh: connect connection refused to host mycomputer port 22: Operation timed out".So what's going on here? I've even tried starting up sshd (ps -ef doesn't show it running), with no luck. Everyone else in the department can connect to their own machines from outside the network (so there doesn't seem to be a firewall blocking the network and restricting incoming connections), but I apparently can't. Has anyone else seen similar behavior and figured out network error connection how to solve it? Thanks! ssh -v -v -v username@destination.address
Compare the ssh debug output from both connection attempts. Assuming the network paths are very similar, you should be able to see where in the connection sequence things go wrong. Also do you have an system preferences -> Security -> Firewall settings that might get in the way? Thanks for the comments. I did try disabling the firewall (and even restarting, since some comments suggested that a restart was needed), but nothing changed.I've done the ssh -v -v -v test, and coming to my Mac the output is very simple. Only three lines, and i
