Ok, so let ‘s talk about what to do if you ‘ve got yourself all setup “ on the iPhone and PC “ with SSH apps and you still have problems connecting via SSH. There are a variety of error messages you can get from SSH clients when connections fail. One of the most common is ‘Network error: Connection refused ‘. I ‘m not going to try to break this up into sections network error connection refused gns3 for every common error message “ for that, you might want to see this post that offers some advice along those lines for common WinSCP errors. Instead, the suggestions below should be useful things to try for nearly all errors you ‘ll encounter. Many of them are quite obvious things “ but they are also things that most of us have had at least a few ‘DOH ‘ moments on, and these checks can bring a quick fix when we do. Things To Try If You Cannot Connect To Your iPhone Via SSH: If you get a timeout error, try increasing the timeout setting Make sure SSH is turned on, on the iPhone - Generally the easiest way to do this is to use an app like SB Settings that gives you a GUI interface to toggle the service on and off with. Make sure WiFi is turned on, on the iPhone “ again, via SB Settings or the iPhone ‘s built-in Settings applet. Check that you are specifying the right port in your desktop SSH app (e.g. WinSCP on Windows or Cyberduck on Mac). The port needs to be 22. Make sure you are entering the correct “ and *current* “ IP address for the iPhone. If your iPhone gets a DHCP (dynamically configured) IP address from your router (as most do), then its address can and will change over time. if anyone has solved it.On 10.5.8, allowing remote network connections should be relatively straightforward. System Preferences -> Sharing -> Remote Login: ssh into iphone without jailbreak OnIt has a green light, along with the following underneath it:"To log in to this computer remotely, type "ssh myname@mycomputer"."Great. So, I ssh to another machine, and type "ssh myname@mycomputer".I get the result, "ssh: http://isource.com/2009/05/05/iphone-tip-things-to-check-if-you-cannot-connect-via-ssh/ connect to host mycomputer port 22: Operation timed out".So what's going on here? I've even tried starting up sshd (ps -ef doesn't show it running), with no luck. Everyone else in the department can connect to their own machines from outside the network (so there doesn't seem to be a firewall blocking the network and restricting incoming connections), but I apparently can't. Has anyone else seen similar behavior and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2611734?tstart=0 figured out how to solve it? Thanks! Compare the ssh debug output from both connection attempts. Assuming the network paths are very similar, you should be able to see where in the connection sequence things go wrong. Also do you have an system preferences -> Security -> Firewall settings that might get in the way? Thanks for the comments. I did try disabling the firewall (and even restarting, since some comments suggested that a restart was needed), but nothing changed.I've done the ssh -v -v -v test, and coming to my Mac the output is very simple. I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: Network error: Connection refused. Then, I dont't change anything, try to login a few times more, wait a while and try again. Sometimes I can log in, sometimes I cannot. It seems pretty random to me. What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text.
