I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: Network error: Connection

What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text. I restarted Ubuntu and now I can't SSH on port 22 from my Windows machine on the same network with PuTTY. The following message appears: Now this is fairly common as I've seen from the dozens of sites that mention it (even here on Ubuntu's forums, but I haven't found the solution in them yet). What I've tried: 1). restart ssh service: Code: /etc/init.d/ssh restart I tried the same thing with sshd but that doesn't exist on my system and can't be located with apt-get -- just mentioning that because I've seen it on a few of the forums I've read so far. 2). make sure port 22 is open in firewall. Code: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT 3). restarting, and that obviously hasn't worked. Please let me know if you'd like me to post the output from various commands, will do so promptly. Thank you for your time, Brandon Doyle Adv Reply Reply With Quote August 12th, 2015 #2 S

The Firewall is set up to allow access on connection refused Port 22, but I'm still getting this error message. What could be causing this error when the firewall is open to traffic on Port 22? What firewall do you mean, the one on local or remote network error connection side? Also note that some local firewalls can block connection based on application, not only port._________________Martin Prikryl stamfordblue [View user's profile] Joined: 2006-04-19 Posts: 1 Posted: 2006-04-19 23:17 [Reply with quote] I get the same error. I have a remote server which I can access fine via remote desktop but when I enter the IP address, username and password (after ensuring my local firewall allows winscp access) I get the connection refused message. Also are you sure that there is SSH server running on the server?_________________Martin Prikryl Guest Posted: 2006-05-02 13:37 Re: Network Error: Connection Refused problem [Reply with quote] MicroMoth wrote: Hi, I cannot log into WinSCP, everytime I try I get the Network Error: Connection Refused error. I had PuTTY up & running untill I did a reinstall of Fedora13. I can ping 192.168.1.163 fine. SELinux is disabled. Firewall is default (SSH allowed on p22). I have just disabled the firewall with same result) PuTTY reports: =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= PuTTY log 2010.07.20 16:23:52 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Event Log: Writing new session log (SSH raw data mode) to file: C:\Users\wim\Desktop\putty.log Event Log: Looking up host "192.168.1.163" Event Log: Connecting to 192.168.1.163 port 22 Event Log: Failed to connect to 192.168.1.163: Network error: Connection timed out Event Log: Network error: Connection timed out Does anyone have a clue? To confuse the matters (as I can Ping 192.168.1.163 normally) see below. Any input greatly appreciated. this THREAD seems to have a short and a longer version (5 replies). It is solved. However I can't seem to edit the correct thread. Solution was given by Scot35276: sshd was not running. Thankyou Scott.
