Open terminal and type the following command: sudo init 1 Again get back to GUI with init 2 command: sudo init 2 When you type init 1 command your session will then begin to shut down and bring you into single user text mode. When you type init 2 command your session will then begin to shut down and bring you into GUI mode :) Please help me , i need to solve this error before my boss sees this error networking server ssh shutdown putty share|improve this question edited Feb 19 '14 at

The Firewall is set up to allow access on Port 22, but I'm still getting this connection refused error message. What could be causing this error when the firewall is open to traffic on Port 22? What firewall do you mean, the one on local or remote side? Also note that some local firewalls can block connection based putty network error on application, not only port._________________Martin Prikryl stamfordblue [View user's profile] Joined: 2006-04-19 Posts: 1 Posted: 2006-04-19 23:17 [Reply with quote] I get the same error. I have a remote server which I can access fine via remote desktop but when I enter the IP address, username and password (after ensuring my local firewall allows winscp access) I get the connection refused message. Black@Black-PC ~ $ ssh -Y kwagjj@$labserver -p 122 [kwagjj@James5 ~]$ firefox Error: no display specified [kwagjj@James5 ~]$ I used -X, -Y because I read somewhere that these two options are related with credentials regarding X11 and these switches will do the job for me. Even without the -X, -Y switches, my attempt failed. What does the 'no display speicified' error mean? P.S. The weird thing is that if I connect to the remote server through my PUTTY and repeat the command 'firefox' it works?!?!(firefox is displayed on local computer) P.S. my local computer is Windows 7 so I have Xming running on background in order to allow X11 display. As for the attempt written on the upper part, the commands were typed in at Cygwin terminal. ssh x11 cygwin share|improve this question edited Jun 24 '14 at 23:37 Gilles 373k696801129 asked Jun 24 '14 at 12:43 kwagjj 61121021 Have you tried to display something locally from your Cygwin terminal? For example, you could find a local X utility such as xclock and run it to see what happens. If you cannot display locally, the remote display won't work. You
