I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 on it, and I have connected it to the Pi using an Ethernet cable. I want to SSH in to the Pi, so I have installed PuTTy. I went to the windows command line and typed in ipconfig and looked under Ethernet adapter Ethernet > Autoconfiguration Ipv4 Address to find the ip address of the Pi. I took that IP and entered it under "Hostname(or IP address)" in PuTTy. I gave the name a session, pressed save and http://superuser.com/questions/924859/what-is-causing-putty-to-not-connect-to-raspberry-pi open. Now, I am getting the following error: Fatal Error: Network Error: Connection Refused I looked online, but I couldn't find a solution for windows (but there are a lot for Linux). I tried making sure I had the right IP address by trying to ping the Pi (and I can). I read other posts saying the error is caused by the server blocking the connection, but I am not sure how I would go about fixing that. The only thing I can see that looks strange in the command line to me is that there is no default gateway set up for Ethernet. However, I thought that I would need access to the Pi in order to change that. Can someone tell me if there is a step I am missing in my setup that could be causing this error? I'm new to this, so any help is appreciated. Thanks! windows ssh raspberry-pi putty share|improve this question asked Jun 4 '15 at 18:00 JustBlossom 106116 migrated from stackoverflow.com Jun 7 '15 at 10:26 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. Ubuntu Linux shutdown the X server(http://theos.in/news/ubuntu-linux-shutdown-the-x-server/) ....... Another way - You can change the current runlevel From a command line, you can use the init command to go immediately into runlevel 1, which is also known as single user text mode. Open terminal and type the following command: sudo init 1 Again get back to GUI with init 2 command: sudo init 2 When you type init 1 command your session will then begin to shut down and bring you into single user text mode. When you type init 2 command your session will then begin to shut down and bring you into GUI mode :) Please help me , i need to solve this error before my boss sees this error networking server ssh shutdown putty share|improve this question edited Feb 19 '14 at 13:14 asked Feb 19 '14 at 11:04 Ashu 108116 closed as unclear what you're asking by Javier Rivera, guntbert, Braiam, Maythux, BuZZ-dEE Feb 21 '14 at 11:
