I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 on it, and I have connected it to the Pi using an Ethernet cable. I want to SSH in to the Pi, so I have installed PuTTy. I went to the windows command line and typed in ipconfig and looked under Ethernet adapter Ethernet > Autoconfiguration Ipv4 Address to find the ip address of the Pi. I took http://superuser.com/questions/924859/what-is-causing-putty-to-not-connect-to-raspberry-pi that IP and entered it under "Hostname(or IP address)" in PuTTy. I gave the name a session, pressed save and open. Now, I am getting the following error: Fatal Error: Network Error: Connection Refused I looked online, but I couldn't find a solution for windows (but there are a lot for Linux). I tried making sure I had the right IP address by trying to ping the Pi (and I can). I read other posts saying the error is caused by the server blocking the connection, but I am not sure how I would go about fixing that. The only thing I can see that looks strange in the command line to me is that there is no default gateway set up for Ethernet. However, I thought that I would need access to the Pi in order to change that. Can someone tell me if there is a step I am missing in my setup that could be causing this error? I'm new to this, so any help is appreciated. Thanks! windows ssh raspberry-pi putty share|improve this question asked Jun 4 '15 at 18:00 JustBlossom 106116 migrated from stackoverflow.com Jun 7 '15 at 10:26 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: Network error: Connection refused. Then, I dont't change anything, try to login a few times more, wait a while and try again. Sometimes I can log error connection refused in, sometimes I cannot. It seems pretty random to me. What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text. I had PuTTY up & running untill I did a reinstall of Fedora13. I can ping 192.168.1.163 fine. SELinux is disabled. Firewall is default (SSH allowed on p22). I have just disabled the firewall with same result) PuTTY reports: =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= PuTTY log 2010.07.20 16:23:52 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Event Log: Writing new session log (SSH raw data mode) to file: C:\Users\wim\Desktop\putty.log Event Log: Looking up host "192.168.1.163" Event Log: Connecting to 192.168.1.163 port 22 Event Log: Failed to connect to 192.168.1.163: Network error: Connection timed out Event Log: Network error: Connection timed out Does anyone have a clue? To confuse the matters (as I can Ping 192.168.1.163 normally) see below. Any input greatly appreciated. this THREAD seems to have a short and a longer version (5 replies). It is solved. However I can't seem to edit the correct thread. Solution was given by Scot35276: sshd was not running. Thankyou Scott. Another possibility is that the firewall is blocking access (check the "trusted services" list). jpollard View Public Profile Find all posts by jpollard #3 28th July 2010, 03:19 PM scott32746 Offline Registered User Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Lake Mary, Florida Age: 52 Posts: 1,088 Re: P
