This means that if you design your report using Integrated Security, you must supply a domain user's credentials in code to log on to the SQL Server (you can change the user, but it must be a domain account). If you will be using a SQL Server account in production, it is very important that you use this account's credentials to connect to the database during the design phase. The CR designer caches database connection information, so I havefound it best to completely delete all current connections andthen exit and reopen Visual Studio before designing my report. I could then make a fresh connection to the database using the credentials I

At my account there crystal reports database logon failed sql server are 5 users who can successfully install Crystal 2008 with click once. However one database logon failed crystal reports c# cannot. The user gets a error when the CAB attempts to register PrintReport.dll. To get around this problem, we downloaded the database logon failed crystal reports 2010 asp.net c# 2008 SP2 and installed it on that workstation. My app will now install. However, no reports will run. A "Logon Failed" error occurs. I have googled this error code and apparently it is the http://aspalliance.com/532_Understanding_the_Login_Failed_Error_in_Crystal_Reports.3 Crystal version of "check engine light on". Note that this does not occur on any of the other user installations at the site. Only for this user, on this machine. They have totally rebuilt the machine, reformated the drive and reinstalled Windows. For the love of god, does anyone have a clue as to why one user in five cannot successfully logon to the database while running a report?! http://www.crystalreportsbook.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10958 Pissed off in Houston, JRich IP Logged jkwrpc Senior Member Joined: 19 Jun 2007 Location: United States Online Status: Offline Posts: 432 Posted: 25 Aug 2010 at 9:31am Dear PO in Houston...:) Generally when this happens it often has to do with the individuals permissions to the backend database. That is the reason for the logon error. Those can be controlled a variety of ways anymore so it is hard to suggest one thing. Still I would suggest you look there if you have had a successful install. If the user has been accessing the data all along then obviously what I just said may not the way to troubleshoot this out. Hope this may be of help Regards, John W. www.CustomReportWriters.net IP Logged JoerTX Newbie Joined: 25 Aug 2010 Location: United States Online Status: Offline Posts: 10 Posted: 26 Aug 2010 at 1:21pm This would be a reasonable conclusion to draw...except for the following 2facts. 1.The reports are run from within an application that already successfully logged on the the database. Everyone uses the same "alias" user ID/Password.Using the alias, the user's instance of the applicationcan log into the database. In fact the user can do anything with the app (ie. That's an understatement. Since I use the “push” method (generating an ADO.NET dataset first, then setting the report's DataSource), I never saw this error, but crystal report I decided to try and replicate the problem to see why this was happening--it seems to be a popular error. I had a suspicion that impersonation and the “double hop“ (where the ASP.NET application cannot pass the user's credentials) may play a role in this problem, since the methods in Eric's article don't solve the problem crystal report viewer for every user it should. To replicate the problem, I used an ASP.NET project connecting to either a remote production SQL Server database or a copy of the same database on my development machine (SQL Server Developer Edition). I created a stored procedure that was just a simple SELECT statement, and used this stored procedure as my report source (“pull“ method). I probably created this report 20 different ways, testing various options, and here's what I found. Lesson 1: Integrated or SQL Server Security When you begin to design your report, you are prompted to connect to the SQL Server database when you choose an OLEDB connection (CR.NET doesn't use ADO.NET, and ODBC requires a system DSN). Your choices are to use Integrated Security or to enter a user ID and password. If you choose Integrated Security, Visual Studio will use your credentials to connect to the SQL Server database via Windows Authentication. If you choose to enter a user ID and password, VS will
