Answered by: DCOM Event ID 10005 & 7001 in Windows 8 Windows 8.1 IT Pro > Windows 8.1 Security Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi , when i open my pc with safe mode in windows 8, desktop screen is flickring . it seems always refreshing windows explorer. i opened Task Manager and i ve noticed that everytime it tries to run Thumbnail Handler Extraction Host but fails. it continues adding "Thumbnail Handler Extraction Host" application on Task Manager Processes list many times consecutively in every seconds. while i check evet ID i am getting 2 Errors : 1. Event ID = 10005 DistributedCOM 2. Today however it wont boot into Normal mode (safe mode is fine). I've checked the events log and it looks like a couple of drivers are corrupt. Unfortunately googling on how to fix them comes up with a lot of spam sites trying to get you to download tools to "fix" it. In normal mode my computer will run from 2 mins to 3 hours and then lock up, needing a hard reset. I have run various malware programs, and removed Google Chrome as it seemed to be happening more when I was using that browser. Currently able to get the system to run consistently only in SAFE mode.
