Dell Optiplex 755 Post Error Codes
View Articles Neophyte Geek Join Date Mar 2009 Posts 2 Dell Error Code 2000-0142 My harddrive failed, I bought a new one and installed it about 4 weeks ago. Everything was fine, until I turned it on and it wouldn't start up, it keep cycling asking me if I wanted to start in safe mode or last good configuration, but would never startup. I ran diagnostics and I got error code 2000-0142. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. Upon looking up this code all I have found is that the harddrive failed. Is this true? It is a new hdd, and nothing happened to it, or the last one for that matter. Could something internally be causing my harddrives to fail? Dell Optiplex 755 Beep Codes

It reaches Vista's loading screen (the one with the moving filling bar and the "© Microsoft Corporation" below) but doesn't go any further. The Hard http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?69036-Dell-Error-Code-2000-0142 Disk activity light goes off after a while and stays that way forever. Then I tried loading it in Safety Mode, but the very same thing happened. Then I tried booting it from the windows DVD only to be baffled by the same error. The only thing I've managed to run so far was a Diagnostics tool, only to find that hard drive https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-booting-problem.784160/ problem: Error Code 0142 (Msg: 2000-0142 / Msg: HD1 Status: 79) Error Code 0146 (Msg: 2000-0146) And after that, in the advanced diagnostics window I tried running a complete hard drive test, and found a bunch of timeout sectors/clusters like the following: 0F00:0232 Disk_0 Block 26982144 Timeout IRQ I also tried removing the HD to check it out, but it seems in perfect shape. Since I can't boot up windows nor the booting installation cd, is there another way to fix this without a hard drive replacement? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. markwalk, Dec 28, 2008 #1 Sponsor Mumbodog Joined: Oct 3, 2007 Messages: 7,891 Error Code 0142 (Msg: 2000-0142 / Msg: HD1 Status: 79) It means "Drive Self Test failed" this is non specific to which drive failed the test. You need to know if this was for the hard drive or the Optical Drive, the Dell diagnostics test both, so it could mean there was no data cd/dvd in the drive when it tried to test the read/write test of the Optical drive. On a Dell it ususally means the Optical drive,
cost to get this fixed? I ran diagnostics on my computer after it froze on the first screen when you switch the computer on (dell xps 430 vista (32 bit)) and i got http://www.ifmdb.com/GpR2Y6Sq-dell-error-code-0142-hard-drive-faulty.html the error code 2000-0142. From my search on the forums this says your hard drive is faulty and needs fixing. How much will this cost to get fixed? I'm thinking of taking it to the tech http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/25408-dell-optiplex-755-a.html guys at pc world. Backup any important data immediately and then perform a scan disk to see if it picks anything up. I would agree with GrumbleDook also that changing the hard drive (for experimental purposes) should instantly show if it's the hard dis
