Join Now I have a Dell Optiplex 760 I was going to reconfigure for another user. When I pushed the power button, nothing happened. I changed plugs, changed power chords still dead. When I press the button on the back of the case on the power supply The fan comes on, the regular power button glows amber but still won't boot, but pressing the regular power button turns the machine off. I suspect a bad power supply but since it "kind of" works I'm not sure. Unplug the power source and hold in the power button for about 30 seconds. I have read differing reason as to why this happens from capacitors not discharging to a bad surge protector and iffy wall voltages. I have not tried a different power supply I have just been living with it as it only happens if I ever unplug the unit. 2 Tabasco OP Adam Sharif May 28, 2014 at 1:50 UTC Definitely sounding like a bad power supply - few things to check though:Connectors between PSU and motherboardRAM seated correctlyCPU seated correctlyAre you able to swap out a power supply from another OptiPlex 760 to test?
