This issue has been seen with AIT4 tape drives, but may apply to others.SymptomsThe following error appears in the Application Event log: "Source: Backup Exec™ Even ID: 58053Type: ErrorBackup Exec: Backup Exec cannot use this tape device because it has detected a mismatched tape device serial number. The device device error status has been changed to offline. Please restart all Backup Exec services to fix this problem." This issue has been seen with AIT4 tape drives, but may also apply to others.CauseThe tape drive firmware and/or Windows® drivers are not up to date. ProcedureUpdate the tape drive firmware Ifthe tape drive will not eject a tape, device error event reboot the server to gain control of the tape drive. You now need to stop the Backup Exec services. From the Tools menu, choose Backup Exec Services and then Stop all Services. Download (if necessary) and run the latest version of the Sony Tape tool (see TEC640561 in the Other Useful Articles sectionbelow) . Identify the tape drive model. This information should be available under the Devices tab of Backup Exec. You now need to download the latest firmware for the drive. Start here:http://sony.storagesupport.com/models/1 Use the Sony Tape tool to load the latest firmware version you have just downloaded. Close the Sony Tape Tool. Restart the Backup Exec Services: from the Tools menu, choose Backup Exec Services and thenRestart all Services.Install the latest Sony driver Browse to c:\Program Files\Symantec\BackupExec (or wherever Symantec™ Backup Exec is installed).
