I/o Device Error Windows 10
August 10, 2014 Last seen - Latest answer on Oct 6, 2016 05:47AM I have a 1 and a half year old WD 1 TB hard disk which was giving great service. Recently, it http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2256088/external-hard-drive-error.html has started showing errors and I really need to recover the data. The laptop gives the sound notification when I plug it in, and also the "remove device safely" option gets enabled. But the drive does not get displayed on My Computer. I checked the device manager, and the hard disk is shown The disk management shows the hard disk 1 as unknown and not initialized. I http://ccm.net/forum/affich-763646-wd-hard-disk-not-detected-on-my-computer-i-o-device-error tried initializing it, but it shows I/O device failure. Please help, as I really need to recover the data available on the hard disk before I format or ask for a replacement. Various data recovery software have been tried unsuccessfully (Ease US Data Recovery, Recuva, PC Inspector, Stellar Phoenix, Yodot Hard Drive Recovery, iCare Data Recovery) See more Hard disk not initialized i/o error I/o Device error wd 1 tb external hard disk My external sata hard disk shows in not initialized HELP my western digital is not recognized [Solved] (Solved) Western Digital Passport Hard drive not detected Western Digital 1TB External Hard Drive Not Recognized by PC (Solved) Wd hard disk not detected WD My passport external hard disk not detecting on computers Helpful +5 Report Ambucias 32575Posts Monday February 1, 2010Registration date ModeratorStatus October 13, 2016 Last seen Aug 10, 2014 06:47AM I suggest that you may find this Kioskea How-to very helpful: http://ccm.net/faq/26351-western-digital-hard-disk-not-being-detected View all 10 comments Report cc- Jan 2, 2016 11:03AM is it solved? When I was creating partitions, I accidentally formatted it from NTFS to RAW. I tried to format it back to NTFS, but I got an error ("could not format"). I then tried to run chkdsk on it, but chkdsk doesn't work with RAW. So then I tried with DiskPart, but the same formatting error occurred ("the request could not be performed because of o device error an i/o device error"). I don't care if I lose any data, I just want to get my disk back in a usable state. windows hard-drive ntfs share|improve this question edited Dec 22 '12 at 13:09 asked Dec 21 '12 at 22:10 Hyztname 144118 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted Boot from a Linux LiveCD/USB and try GParted (or perhaps from GParted's own Debian-based LiveCD/USB). If that doesn't work, see if you can take the drive out of the case (obviously don't do it if it'll void the warranty) and directly attach it to a desktop so you can run GParted on it. On Gparted you'll have to "Create a new Partition Table" and then create any partition you'd like because it's going to format for it. If you still get I/O errors or GParted fails, use WinDFT and run an Extended/Thorough Test on the drive. If that passes, Erase the Disk and attempt to repartition: share|improve this answer edited Dec 22 '12 at 14:29 Marcks Thomas 4,85711333 answered Dec 21 '12 at 22:32 Karan 42k1073107 +1, GParted should be able to handle it. –neersighted Dec 21 '12 at 22:33 I've tried WinDTF before, it doesn't read any of them. I'll try with Gparted now, i have a Live Ubuntu DVD somewh
