So I'd advice to try the HDD on another PC/laptop. 2/ i/o device error windows 8 Another thing I'd do is check if you have the latest firmware update of your external drive. If it is outdated, it can reflect the performance of your drive. 3/ Can you access the drive through Device and/or Disk Management? Plug into port on my comp, lights up so the powers good. Open "My Computer" in my Windows XP(stop laughing, I know it's old). Drive shows up but will not open. After many moments waiting the error message comes up: "Cannot open due to I/O damage" I need all the info recovered as it stores pictures of a recently deceased daughter of mine. I'm low tech, so take it easy. I went to Seagate website to download drivers for updating, could not even find my product! Downloaded Driver Manager and it says it's not plugged in....Help - I'm confused. Answer This Ask For Clarification Discussion is locked Flag Permalink You are posting a reply to: How d

Is it making any sorts of noises out of the ordinary, or does it sound perfectly fine when you spin it up? Did anything happen before it gave this error (did you bump the drive, did it hit any errors copying files, etc)?I suspect no one has responded because there is not enough details given about the nature of the failure...Dizi Top custodian79 Post subject: Re: seagate ST3750330AS i/o device errorPosted: June 17th, 2011, 3:15 Joined: June 11th, 2011, 23:08Posts: 3Location: Australia The drive still spins and doesnt make any suspicious noises. i was downloading files directly to it when i got the i/o error. windows can see the drive just cannot read it at all, not even the drives given name. bios however can read everything size, platters, the lot.windows seatools was just the same as windows can detect but not read. ive got a the dos version ready to go just waiting on the replacement drive... before i start messing with it anymorewhat sucks the most is i was getting all new replacement drives this weekend anyway as a precaution. just a week too late Top labtech Post subject: Re: seagate ST3750330AS i/o device errorPosted: June 17th, 2011, 9:02 Joined: August 18th, 2010, 17:35Posts: 2915Location: Massachusetts, USA Seems to be either a firmware issue or bad sectors (with possibly
