ago when I bumped the door. Under properties, it says "Location: Location 0 (0)" and "Device Status: This device is working properly." I have gone to recommended links, downloaded from Microsoft, pulled drive out, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, put it back in ... even tried to open it thinking what do I have to lose if I have to go buy a new one anyway. It still doesn't work. Error message I get: "D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I've called Toshiba (I'm http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/257896-32-error-drive out of warranty) and they did not know what to do. They referred me to a service center who said they'd have to configure some stuff probably but it would take three weeks before they'd get to me. I'm in the middle of a project so can't be w/o laptop for 3 weeks. I tried setting up an appointment in three weeks, but they wouldn't bit. http://www.ozzu.com/hardware/device-error-with-dvd-writable-drive-t64969.html I emailed Panasonic, but they said they are one of several OEM providers for Toshiba's internal dvd drive. I researched Microsoft ... ect. It seems there are configurations that need to be done to the drive itself and supposedly, per Toshiba, I can't do them ... only an authorized dealer. I noticed that an unusal amount of people seem to have experienced my same problem. Anyone ever get a resolve on their own ... or should I just stop the research and take it to a dealer some months from now when I am able to be w/o my computer? Thanks much for any help on this one. iambigjae Born Posts: 1 3+ Months Ago Was wondering if you have solved this issue or if you had to have a dealer do the repair work? I am having the same problem with a *plum* DVD-RAM UJ-840S in a toshiba satellite laptop. Don2007 Web Master Posts: 4923Loc: NY 3+ Months Ago You could buy a CD/DVD External USB drive. It might cost less than paying a tech to install a new internal drive if you can't do it yourself. GeneralB Born Posts: 2 3+ Months Ago Nop

So, I really hope you can "put up" with i/o device error me & my questions. The ONLY way I'm going to learn is to ask questions & learn from other people who know a lot more than I do. I've been having a very frustrating & difficult time trying to burn onto a VERBATIM DVD-R disk (4.7 Gb) a video I have in an external e-SATA back-up drive (connected to my PC via an e-SATA cable). This video (called "The West Vol.1") consists of vob, bup & ifo files (+ 1 pls file). Just minutes into the attempted burn, an ImgBurn error message came up: "Cannot read from file: J:\Video (The WEST Vol.1)\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB". [In "MyComputer" in my PC, the external e-SATA drive is "J" drive]. And then, it also gives the "Reason: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". This been happening time & again! I have used your advice constantly. I am glad to say that I have a lot less spyware on my computer thanks entirely to you. Now to cut to the straight of it. Any CDs or DVDs cannot be read by my D Drive. I have tried all kinds of CDs and DVDs (burned, orginal, et cetera). The exact message is: "D:\ is not accessible The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I have already tried chkdsk. I have already tried what Windows recommended, which is as follows: Manage "My Computer" Device Manager Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Select Properties of Primary IDE Channel Advance Settings Change Transfer mode to PIO only When that did not work, I changed all the devices for both Primary and Secondary IDE Channel to PIO only. The problem continued. My D Drive is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-811, with an updated driver. This is an internal drive purchased along with my Toshiba Satellite laptop. So any advice would be appreciated. Also, Happy Thanksgiving. It looks as though this is a built in hardware problem. Take a look at this http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=99194 . Hope you can get some satisfaction from the manufacturer. I had been assuming it had something to do with my system files or driver and not the actual hardware. I will try the advice listed on the link, but it looks like I just need to send my computer in. Thank you for saving me the money of buying an external drive. I will be sure to ke
