Dos Error Code 1
on the net. Any idea what might be the problem? thnx aslo when I boot it without any disk... it just sits there with a black screen and a blinkin curser... Attempts to fix: - Restore Master Boot Record with XP CD - Moved around RAM to see if one was bad or something - Removed all my PCI devices, bone dry (mobo, cpu, ram, hard drive only) - Tried booting with different disk utilities for the hard drive (Maxtor Blast 3/ PowerMax 4.06) figuring the BIOS couldnt boot it cuz its a 40 gig and the BIOS is too old to handle it. But I doubt thats the case cuz it was reading it a week ago. Some Facts: - Started giving me problems after Installing a PCI FireWire - BIOS detects the Hard drive and everything else good. - I am running WinXP Pro - 350mhz CPU Pentium II - 256MB RAM (2*128MB) - Hard drive ran perfectly fine on two other computers two days ago... You aren't tryiing to boot from that floppy by chance? It isn't bootable. Its just there in case you ever need to replace the MBR. Ideally you make dos error it, put it away, and forget about it. Are you saying that I should remove the floppy from the drive first? vinn, Jul 29, 2006 #3 ErikAlbert Registered Member Joined: Jun 16, 2005 Posts: 9,455 vinn said: I just left the floppy in the drive and restarted the machine. Remove it and boot your computer normally. If you have a reliable image backup software, you won't need that MBR floppy, because the restoration fixes the MBR, if you include the MBR in the restoration. If you don't have an image backup, you might need this floppy one day to fix the MBR. I made this MBR floppy too, just in case, but I never used it.
