I recently copied an old DOS program from a machine using Windows 3.1 to a more dos error 64 modern PC running Windows 98. All I did was copy the entire program directory from one machine to the other. The program appears to be on dos error 4 the new machine in its entirety, but when I try to run it, I get an "Error 76 ?" message and the program freezes? It runs fine on the old machine and I've tried everything I can think of (which isn't much!) It's not dos error level a very big directory (1.2MB) so if anyone wants it to play with, please let me know. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if anyone needs any more information. Thanks in advance Dave pershore4719, Nov 22, 2004 #1 Sponsor angel Joined: Dec 2, 1998 Messages: 2,736 Is it run time error 76? I believe this is Path Not Found. Is this some proprietary software or can you let us know the name of it? Could be that there is some

kind of config file that is specifying a path that doesn't exist on your new pc. Did you place it in the exact same location that it was in on your old pc? angel, Nov 22, 2004 #2 pershore4719 Thread Starter Joined: Nov 22, 2004 Messages: 4 Thanks for getting back. I tried putting the program directory in c:\, which is where it is on the old machine, but no luck. The exact message that comes up when I try to run the program is Error number= 76 ? The strange thing is that there are 3 executables in the program directory and the other two seem to work fine. It's annoying as I feel I'm about 99% of the way there, it's just this last little thing and DOS based stuff is not my specialty! I look forward to hearing from you again and thanks again for your help. Dave pershore4719, Nov 23, 2004 #3 angel Joined: Dec 2, 1998 Messages: 2,736 That's looks more like an error from the actual application. What program is this? angel, Nov 23, 2004 #4 pershore4719 Thread Starter Joined: Nov 22, 2004 Messages: 4 It's an auction program, which deals with catalogues, sale day admin and after sale invoices, payments and commission etc. I believe it was specifically written for our firm and the writer is no longer around to advise on this problem. If it helps, this exactly what I've done: Copied the entire program (via DOS) from an old Fujitsu Indiana!? PC running Windows 3.1 to a floppy (a
error: '76' Path not found when creating a directory Discussion in 'Software' started by ceal21c, Sep 25, 2006. ceal21c Private E-2 Hey Guys, When I use the following code to
Dos Error 53
create a folder I get this error message, Run-time error: '76' Path not found. dos error 2 Dim fso As New FileSystemObject If fso.FolderExists("C:\A\B") = False Then fso.CreateFolder ("C:\A\B") End If BTW the folder "C:\A" already exists before I dos error handling try to create the sub-directory. Thanx. ceal21c, Sep 25, 2006 #1 matt.chugg MajorGeek Is it definatly this line that is throwing the exception ? fso.CreateFolder ("C:\A\B") the only way I can replicate the error https://forums.techguy.org/threads/dos-error-76-message.299485/ is if the c:\a folder doesn't exist. if there is no 'a' folder in c: then it will fail but if it is there is it should be fine. I know you say the a folder is there but just try this code: Code: Dim fso As New FileSystemObject If Not (fso.FolderExists("c:\a")) Then fso.CreateFolder ("c:\a") End If If Not (fso.FolderExists("c:\a\b")) Then fso.CreateFolder ("c:\a\b") End If Last edited: Sep 25, 2006 matt.chugg, http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/run-time-error-76-path-not-found-when-creating-a-directory.103257/ Sep 25, 2006 #2 ceal21c Private E-2 Thanks for your reply matt. I understand your logic and I tried your suggestion but would you believe it, the program still crashes when it tries to create the subdirectory b when a is present on the root of c. I read somewhere that I may have to use a directory object instead of a file object. What do you think? ceal21c, Sep 25, 2006 #3 ceal21c Private E-2 Thanks to everyone for your help it turns out that the directory "C:\A" where I was trying to create the new folder "B" would only allow me to create the folder if I changed the name! I was trying to create a backup folder with the actual name "PRN" for storing some .prn files. Only after I changed the directory name to "BKP" did the program stop crashing and create the folder. Does this make any sense to anyone? ceal21c, Sep 25, 2006 #4 matt.chugg MajorGeek ahhh, if you'd have said PRN straigtaway I would have know the problem instantly. There are several dos device names that are reserved, as such you cannot make a folder or file with their name. Code: AUX First connected serial port PRN First connected parallel port COM1 t

I am using http://vb.runtime.error.76.path.not.found.winwizards.org/ the multi-user version. It has been working just fine. All my workstations are able to access the data files, but I am unable to run Peachtree. It immediately gets a System Error 76. On Friday afternoon I set up a new user in my machine and transferred all the admisitrator information to the dos error new user. Now peachtree won't run. I have tried everything I can think of. I must have done something wrong when I set up the new user. Any ideas? I do have Ver 13 to install--should I just do that? When you set up the new user, backup the system files from one of the machines that is already up. Install the program files on the new machine. Set up a company with the same two letter company id as the others.Restore the system files that you backed up, then go in and activate the modules, when you go to create the data files you should get the message that data files already exist do you want to create empty ones say NO. This will connect you to the existing data. Make sure you back up you data before you upgrade in case you have any problems. Get the other workstation up and running before you upgrade. chikamic View Public Profile Find all posts by chikamic #3 09-30-2002, 01:10 PM JPlute Registered User Join Date: Oct 2001 Location: Bellevue, WA Posts: 18 I did uninstall PCA--I even went in and erased the who folder for PCA. I then reinstalled it and the same error came up. There is no way to restore a backup as I can't even get into Peachtree. The error appears before the date scree
