I don't totally remember the syntax, and I think a lot of it depends on what OS you're running this on (so more info would be helpful), but check in the CONFIG.SYS file in the root directory of your boot drive (it's a text file), and find the line that says FILES=20 or some other low number and change it to something higher, like 99 or so. DOS applications had some goofy pre-allocation of file handles or something like that, so you cant just set that number to a large number else it'll chew up too much RAM. Good luck.
