I fear my technical knowledge may be too little for you all to enjoy limping me along, but any advice would be appreciated. I run my business using an old DOS point of sale system (Pinstripe POS6). It's old but not broken and I like it. I have sellotaped together so many solutions to keep it alive with DOS Print capture programs, com port mapping and pdf overlays that my customers wouldn't suspect it's age. This has worked fine until I look to proceed from winXP and hit the obvious barrier of 64-bit OS. Preliminary reading suggest DosBOX won't be for me (record locking and unlocking I presume to be essential), but under vDos I get the following on running the .exe file: System Error: Proc NET_USE line 0, open error share.dbf I am running a local copy of POS6 on this new machine, vDos is in it's directory. This is obviously a software error message, not vDos. I have insured that share.dbf is not 'read only', and 'full control' is ticked within win7. Do you have any suggestions at all to proceed? Thanks for reading. If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link: Jos Schaars - 2016-03-02 DOSBox is normally save to use in a single-user setting. The error doesn’t tell what the error is, but its name NET_USE could indicate it wants to execute a “NET USE …” command to map a DOS drive letter to a network share. You can start vDos with the /log option, that will create a vDos.log file. If your program is accessing a non-existing drive letter, it will be reported in there. share.dbf could be an application specific extension to the record locking mechanism of DOS. Locking or accessing a disk region that’s already locked is just denied w/o indication of who owns the lock. To provide more information, who locked it and when, the application administers locks in share.dbf? If your application is just trying to open share.dbf and that fails, it could expect this file in another path than provided in vDos. For instance in Windows XP it was D:\db
