Windows 7: Hard disk 301 error Page 1 of 2 1 2 > 01 Aug 2010 #1 goku2000u Windows 7 23 posts Hard disk 301 error I have Windows 7 Compaq Presario CQ61 and it first happened when I was on Youtube, I left the laptop sitting for a bit, then I come back and the screen was completely black. Everytime I turn it on, I get a message saying Hard Disk 301 and it tells me to run a Hard Disk Test but it failed, and I just bought this laptop recently. Could it be that one of the reason is that I uninstalled Norton Antivirus and was attacked by a Trojan? (The reason I uninstalled it, the antivirus was already expired and kept getting pop ups.) Is there a way to reformat the disk or something? Because I'm a little bit good at computers but I don't know how to repair a hard drive. Help will be much appreciated. Thanks. Usually a virus won't cause physical damage to a hard drive. It sounds like the hard drive might be failing. No, age does not matter. It can happen at anytime.
