Publish aborting up vote 0 down vote favorite 1 When I try to run a .exe that I built in VS 2013 with C# it will run just fine on the machine I compiled it in. When I try to run the program on different machines I get exception errors. So I tried to publish the program and I get this error Default certificate could not be created. Publish aborting If I run the executable from a machine that has Visual Studio on it it works fine. When I try to create a certificate I get the error The Profile for the user is a temporary profile. (exception from HRESULT:0x80090024) I would like this executable to run at start-up on all Windows 7 student computers in our school. c# visual-studio share|improve this question edited Apr 27 '15 at 18:05 Saagar Elias Jacky 2,1911623 asked Apr 27 '15 at 13:09 David 616 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote You need to tell the Publisher where to get the Certificate from: Go to Project-> Properties Go to the tab named "Signing" Check the Checkbox labeled 'Sign the ClickOnce manifests'. This enables the section where you can point to a certificate. Click on the button labeled 'Select From File...". In the directory listing, choose a key file (.pfx) and Open. From the step 3, click the button labeled "More Details...". This will display the certificate you've just selected. Click "Install Certificate" and follow the prompts. Save and Publish your Solution. share|improve this answer answered Apr 27 '15 at 13:24 Saagar Elias Jacky 2,1911623 How do I create a .pfx file? –David Apr 27 '15 at 14:03 Refer technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd261744.aspx –Saagar Elias Jacky Apr 27 '15 at 14:06 Thanks that works.. –David Apr 28 '15 at 20:32 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your

I have just started the projects in this book, http://forums.oreilly.com/topic/3991-c-first-exercise-publish-step/ and have experienced the same problem.Solution: In the Publish Wizard on the "Where do you want to publish the application?" window, change the default location from "publish\" to your local hard drive disk path if you are saving to your hard drive. The Wizard does not give a valid path as "publish\".You may want to use : c:\deploy\myapplication. Or choose wherever you want your files to be stored.Accepting all the defaults in the book at this step is wrong, which gives some of us an error if we did not choose a valid Disk path.Hopefully this solves your problem. Back to top #3 Peter_Mar Peter_Mar New Member Members 2 posts Posted 20 December 2009 - 05:46 PM I'm also running into this issue. I recently upgraded to windows 7 prior to starting this book. I tried the suggestion without any luck. Further research came up with the following fix. After doing this I was able to publish the exercise using all the orginal defaults suggested in the book. The Publish folder ends up in the contracts folder. I hope this helps anyone running into this issue. To tell the Publisher where to get the Certificate from:1) From the Menu Bar, Click Project-> Properties2) In the Project Properties, click the tab labeled "Signing"3) Click the Checkbox labeled 'Sign the ClickOnce man

this one. I am running VS 2005 Pro. If I create any windows application and then try to publish it I get a "Default certificate could not be created. Publish aborting." I have tried to create the test certificate but every time I try to do this I get an error "The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT : 0x80070002). However, I have another machine with VS 2005 Standard and if I create a windows application it works with no problem. I have re-installed VS 2005 Pro on my machine again but the problem persist. Anyone has seen this before? Any suggestions? I have searched the web for possible solutions but to not avail. Obviously Microsoft won't even talk to you unless you pay them for their technical support. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me. Their software is messed up and yet they want me to pay them. Any suggestions appreciated. IF you are running on Vista, try right-clicking on VS2005 and selecting "Run as Administrator" and see if this helps you at all. Robin S. ---------------------------------
