A couple of months ago I decided to compress some of my backups to conserve space unable to archive zip mac on my external drive. I'm running OSX 10.7 and arching the folders didn't seem to be an unzip files mac error 1 operation not permitted issue at all. The OSX version of the zip archiver didn't throw any warnings or messages when these archives were created. When I went back to error 1 operation not permitted mac archive utility try and unarchive them using the same utility it wouldn't work. Now, it throws an error to the effect:Unable to expand "Archive.zip" in "Folder".(Error 1 - Operation not permitted)I've tried a number of solutions including the archive into another directory, playing unable to expand tar.gz operation not permitted with the permissions, running the zip utility in both 32- and 64-bit modes. I've even moved some of the archives to different versions of OSX and Windows and nothing seems to be working. Can anyone shed light on this issue?ThanksStefan MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1), 15" MBP, 11" MBA, Mini Lion Server Posted on Mar 8, 2012 11:09 AM I have this question too Close Q: Zip Archives won't unarchive... I have attempted to recover data from corrupt zip files in the past with zero percent success rate. It appears once zip files get corrupted that chances of recovering anything is very remote.Allan Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Stefan Lehmann, Stefan Lehmann Mar 8, 2012 1:08 PM in response to Stefan Lehmann Level 1 (5 points) Mar 8, 2012 1:08 PM in response to Stefan Lehmann Tell me about it. What I can't figure out is why the Zip utility didn't check the archive and throw an error before closing down. Now I'm stuck with several gigabytes of bricked data and don't trust the utility to do anything anymore. Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by ts232, ts232 Sep 24, 2012 6:45

When I double-click on them (in Leopard), I get a message that says: Unable to unarchive "the zip file's name" (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.) I purchased several of these zip files from a legitimate source, and I have no reason to think there's anything wrong with them. I'd appreciate any advice to help me unarchive them. Options: Reply• Quote Re: Can't unZip file Posted by: Chakravartin Date: September 02, 2011 09:58PM Were the files created under Windows or Linux? Open some of the problem-files in ZipIt and have a look at the contents. A file-name error usually points to a character in the file-name that you're not allowed to use in the Mac OS. If the files have unusual characters in their names you can use ZipIt to rename the files in the archive before you extract the files. Options: Reply• Quote Re: Can't unZip file Posted by: jimmy d Date: September 02, 2011 10:14PM Chakravartin, I don't know how the files were created. They are audio files of an NPR radio program that I purchased online. Each zip file contains three separate programs. When I click on your Zipit link above I get an app named ZipIt 2.2.2.sea which asks me something about a dictionary and then delivers a window of gibberish. I appreciate your trying to help me out, but there must be something wrong with that Zipit link. Options: Reply• Quote Re: Can't unZip file Posted by: Winston Date: September 02, 2011 10:36PM A .sea file is a "self extracting archive" probably made with Stuffit. It's supposed to be able to unstuff on its own. See if Stuffit Expander (which also might help with the zip files) can help. [www.stuffit.com] Good luck. - Winston p.s. Oops. I don't know anything about Zipit, but if it's a competitor to Stuffit, they likely didn't use Stuffit to compress their own file... ------------------------ Be seeing you. Edited 1 time(s). Maybe it's something to do with the original zip files, so
