Windows Could Not Start The Windows Firewall Service On Local Computer Error 1068

My laptop runs vista and recently I got a malware posing as a security program windows firewall error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start that seems to have disabled my windows firewall. I have since cleaned my system, but the firewall kept giving me the "1068: dependancy service or group failed to start" error. I tried the advice windows firewall error 1068 windows 7 you gave the person in the closed thread about the same problem but my problem seems to come from a slightly different error from his. I used the steps in that topic and the following images show the results I got. When I go to the event viewer, like you mentioned in the topic, it brings up this... Hi a: Go to Start>Control panel>Device manager b: Now click on View menu at the top and then select show Hidden devices. c: Now expand Non-plug and play drivers and then select Window Firewall authorization driver d: Now right click on Window Firewall authorization driver and then select properties. e: Now go to the Driver tab and start the service and then click ok. In this first post, I will cover Windows XP and Windows Vista / Windows 7 separately as they are two different services. Last I will cover one issue with OneCare. Note: Specifics on Windows Vista and Windows 7will come in a later blog post. Windows XP In Windows XP, the firewall service is named "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)", or SharedAccess service. Typical errors seen as either popups or within event logs when the service fails to start are: Cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing (ICS) Service on local computer Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified Error 1705: While starting windows firewall and internet connection sharing services Problems starting the Firewall Service in Windows XP are most commonly related to an issue with the Shared Access registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess The quickest resolution is generally to rebuild the key. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. Resolution To resolve this issue, make sure that all dependant services have been started. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start, Run and type Services.msc Double-click the Network Connections entry Set its Startup type to Manual Click Start to start the service Double-click Windows Management Instrumentation Set its Startup type to Automatic Click Start to start the service. After starting the two dependant services, try to start the Windows Firewall service. More information The dependency information for a service can be determined using the Services applet, or using the SC command-line utility. Click Start, Run and type cmd /k sc qc sharedaccess and press enter.
