Resolution The DHCP Client Service in Windows XP, depends on these three components: AFD NetBios over Tcpip TCP/IP Protocol Driver If one of the above drivers fail to start, then the DHCP Client Service may not start. Step I - Make sure that the http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dhcp.htm three driver files are present Open Windows Explorer and navigate to %Windir%\System32\Drivers folder. Make sure that the following files are present in the folder: afd.sys tcpip.sys netbt.sys If one or more of the above driver files are missing, extract them from the Windows XP CD-ROM or from the ServicePackFiles\i386 folder, whichever is the latest version. Step II - Verify the number of Dependencies From other sources in the Web, I've found that installation of Norton Antivirus (NAV) adds an entry to the DHCP Service dependencies, and removing NAV does not remove the corresponding entry from the DHCP Dependencies. To view the dependency services registered for DHCP Client Service, type the following command in Start, Run dialog: CMD /K SC QC DHCP Verify the output. desktop computer, all devices using wireless connection worked fine. Desktop computer was connected to the network but no internet access. We tried but we were having problems starting DHCP Client Services with Error 1068, dependency services or group failed to start. After spending many hours searching for a solution we found a number of posts out there on how to resolve this problem, some work some will not help you that much. We thought we could share with you the step by step instructions we followed and got everything back working fine thanks to a member (The Lady Sharrow) on Microsoft answers. Step 1: Click START button Step 2: In the Search area, type "regedt32" (don't include the "") Press ENTER Key Or right click on the search result and "Run as Administrator" Step 3: Click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE", should expand out to a list of stuff Step 4: Next choose "SYSTEM", should expand again Step 5: Choose "CurrentControlSet", expands again Step 6: Choose "Services", expands to a super large list of stuff Step 7: Click on "Dhcp", the right window will show the files in that folder Step 8: Double click on "DependOnService" Step 9: Delete all the words in text area, except "Afd", and click OK. You are done here Step 10: Next under "Services", look for "EapHost", this should be a few folders below Dhcp Step 11: double click on the file "DependOnService" Step 12: Delete everything in the text are and click OK. You are done. Finally close everything and RESTART WINDOWS. Hope this works for you if you have been experiencing similar problems.
