have tried your fix. the windows firewall services shows up again, but i cant start the services says "Error 1068: The dependency services or group failed to start". I also did the following from an old post you said to do: Click Start, Run and type Services.msc Right-click the Network Connections entry Set its Startup type to Manual Click Start to start the service Right-click Windows Management Instrumentation Set its Startup peer networking grouping error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start type to Automatic Click Start to start the service. My laptop runs vista and recently I got a malware posing as error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start sql server a security program that seems to have disabled my windows firewall. I have since cleaned my system, but the firewall kept giving me the "1068: dependancy error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start vmware service or group failed to start" error. I tried the advice you gave the person in the closed thread about the same problem but my problem seems to come from a slightly different error from his. Nothing malicious reported back from Malwarebytes and Microsoft Secrity Essentials full scans. I've tried performing a Windows Update and a few registry things to no avail. Any pointers to resolving this greatly appreciated!
